40 Days and 40 Nights, a no sex comedy, is set in the hip and wild world of freewheeling singles in San Francisco. Matt Sullivan’s (Josh Hartnett) last big relationship ended in disaster and, ever since, his heart’s been aching and his commitment’s been lacking.

A boyishly handsome, single twenty-something web designer, Matt discovers the cure may lie in the unlikeliest of places: a sacrifice made in honor of Lent. A guy who has never been able to finish anything, he decides to go where no man has gone before and make a vow: No sex. Whatsoever. For 40 straight days. No touching. No kissing. No foreplay. No fooling around. No self-gratification. That’s right: no nothing.

At first, he finds that his newfound discipline is working well; he’s feeling in control. But that is all undermined when he meets the woman of his dreams, Erica (Shannyn Sossamon). Sexy and spirited, Erica drives Matt wild. Now, with everyone betting that he can’t possibly finish what he’s started, he’s just trying to hold on, and left hoping she’s willing to hold out.
