Pete Doherty - Last of the English Roses Single Review
Review of Pete Doherty's single 'Last of the English Roses'
Everyone's favourite mockney urchin has returned, but with disappointingly standard fare. Pete revisits his own well-trodden ground of vaguely nostalgic sentiments: Kinks-style memories of a forgotten England, with a bit of rhyming slang thrown in for good measure. There's a girl in there somewhere as well, but it's all very fuzzy around the edges.
The problem is that it lacks the clarity and wit of Doherty's better songs to lift it above average. 'Last of the English Roses' seems to plod along without much energy and - like many of his contributions of late - sounds rather like he's nodding out to a backing track.

problems and thats clear for all of us to see, but look at the rolling stones
they have been on the stuff for years but no one talks of that? the beatles
were high in their time but no one talks of that? even though i am a huge
libertines fan and especially doherty fan i still wouldnt class him in their
leagues however why cant we concentrate on what he does and thats making
incredible music, his lyrics are poetry to the soul and he writes about thigs
that matter to him. why cant people give him a chance?
Palace Of Bone" & " ia am the rain" from itunes and loved them. Still digesting
the lp but it feels like a special disk that'll grow.keep it up pete, stay cool
and watch the drugs eh?
