Jack Penate - Tonight's Today Single Review

Review of Jack Penate's single 'Tonight's Today' released through XL.

Blackheath boy Jack Penate was touted as the next King of Indie back in 2007. But his debut album, Matinee failed to be the ticket to mainstream success that so many had predicted. Tonight's Today, his comeback single has the potential to do just that.

The song is an upbeat afrobeat number with calypso guitars, hand claps and layered, chanted vocals. A real anthem to all those who can identify with the effects of a heavy night, Penate sings 'I shuffle into the sunlight, a zombie roaming on the day'. Perhaps Tonight's Today was released a little early - it is a catchy, uplifting summer tune. That said, it will no doubt feature in festivals and club-land this summer and could just see him break into the mainstream market.
