Clinic - Tomorrow Single Review

Review of Clinic's single 'Tomorrow' released through Domino Records.

Clinic are four Liverpudlians with a thing for performing disguised by surgeons' masks, are admired by Radiohead and use instruments which went out of production with the hoola hoop. They play the kind of recherché garage rock that sends critics into raptures but sells about ten copies and require a bit too much grey matter to take on board than is good for their bank balances. Their third single from the pretty-good-if-you-like-that-sort-of-thing album Do It!, Tomorrow opens like Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Were Made For Walkin', shackles a wailing harmonica with a guitar on a constant chime and sounds like Odelay period Beck on the set of a spaghetti western.

Of more interest, even if only for leftfield DJ's, is likely to be the remix by the DFA - that's Tim Goldsworthy and James 'LCD Soundsystem' Murphy - which features possibly the first use of a clavinet since Stevie Wonder's Superstition and on which the nu-disco magic lend the track a kind of acid funk chic. Or something.
