From the maker of The Station Agent comes The Visitor. Ever since his wife died five years ago, Walter Vale seems to be aimlessly wandering through life, working as an economics professor in Connecticut. With a little persuasion, Walter agrees to go to New York and fill in for a colleague who's at a conference.

New York shows Walter a new lease of life when he meets Tarek and Zainab who have been scammed into illegally renting his vacant flat. Walter agrees to let the couple stay with him in his flat until they find somewhere to live. Tarek and Walter form a strong friendship, but Tarek's partner Zainab is more hesitant.

When an arbitrary meeting with the police lands Tarek in an ICE detention centre, Walter is the only person able to visit him. Tareks mother Mouna arrives in New York looking for her son only to find he's being detained. Walter commits himself to Tarek and find themselves fighting the US immigration system. It's a story of humanity throughout awkward, humorous and dramatic situations.
