Walter Garber works as a dispatcher on the New York subway, he works at the control centre and deals with all the day to day running of underground trains. When the passengers on the Pelham 123 train are taken hostage by a hijacker called Ryder, Walters day is thrown into chaos.

Ryder is demanding money for each life on the train, Garber is trying to satisfy his demands by conversing with the police and acting as Ryder's middleman. Garber uses his knowledge of the underground tunnels to try and outwit Ryder, but what he can't figure out is; even if Ryder gets the money, how will he escape?

Starring: Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Luis Guzmán, Gbenga Akinnagbe, John Turturro and James Gandolfini.
