The Invention Of Lying is Ricky Gervais' first venture into film directing (he also wrote the film) and he's called on some of America's finest comic actors to join him.

The film centres around Gervais' character, Mark Bellison. Bellison is universally loathed, in much the same way that David Brent (from Gervais' revered TV series The Office) was. When Bellison stumbles upon a new-found talent of being able to lie and convince everybody that his word is the gospel truth, his life is turned upside down. With this new skill of his, comes money, women and all of the luxuries that lying can buy. At one point, he succinctly convinces a woman in the street that she needs to sleep with him in order to rescue the planet from instant destruction.

The one thing that Bellison can't quite lie his way into, though, is the heart of the lady that he truly loves (played by Jennifer Garner). He might have everybody else hanging on his every word, but can he win her over?
