Precious is the nickname of Claireece Jones, a sixteen year old girl who lives in Harlem. She's pregnant with her father's child - who has now become absent in her life - Precious is still surrounded by abuse, her mother physically and mentally abuses her, yet through all of this she's managed to do OK at school even though her teachers don't know she can't read and write. Eventually faced with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to join an alternative school, she doesn't really understand what that is but in her heart she feels it's a good move. Precious begins a new journey in her life, a more positive life for her and her baby.
