When you go into hospital, you hope to leave in better condition than you entered. When Bertram Pincus goes in for a routine operation, he dies on the operating table for seven minutes and when he comes around his life is never to be the same again.

Life seems pretty normal until he walks straight through a man, Frank Herlihy, who Bertram quickly finds out his new friend is deceased. Bertram finds he is the new best friend to lots of dead people all wanting help.
