John Whittaker comes from a very well respected English family, his mother runs a large estate and expects everything to be perfect and for John's sisters to act like proper young ladies. The young gentleman falls madly in love with an American girl called Larita, she is a lovely girl but quite brazen in comparison to most of the girls John's mum would have liked him to marry, not to mention her being American!

Larita and Mrs Whittaker compete for Johns affections, his dearest wife who he adores versus his mother who he's always loved and respected. When things are revealed about Larita's past her relationship with John is thrown into question and it seems like his mother might have won the battle.
