Dean Spanley is based on the novel by Baron Dunsany. Set in England 1904 Henslowe Fisk and his and his elderly cantankerous father decide to go to a talk on reincarnation, they're unsure what they are going to find.

Whilst at the lecture, the father and son meet Dean Spanley, on a number of occasions after their first meeting Henslowe and the Dean meet on a number of occasions, and Henslowe finally invites the Dean over for dinner.

Before dinner starts Dean Spanley seems to fall into a hypnotic state, induced by a special form of alcohol. The Dean tells the group about a past life which involves the whole group, his stories turn out to be cathartic for the whole group.
