The only -- the only -- reason you'll be seeing this film or reading this
review is because of a giant photo of Angelina Jolie on the cover of the DVD
along with her name, listed first, in the credits.
Fair warning: You'll wait a full hour before Jolie makes her appearance as a
junkie/hostile witness to a murder, the secrets of which comprise the true
story of Without Evidence.
Scott Plank (he'd later star in Melrose Place and Baywatch Hawaii before
passing away in 2002) stars as Kevin Francke, the brother of Oregon's Head of
Corrections, who was stabbed to death in the office parking lot in 1989. He
heads to Salem to investigate, unconvinced that the state is doing a good job
at it. In the process, he finds a cover-up surrounding his brother's death,
corruption in the department, a helpful TV newsman, and a belligerent Angelina.
The other curiosity about Without Evidence is the $1 million reward offered for
information leading to the conviction of Francke's true killer. Although
someone is currently doing time for the murder, Kevin never bought it. There's
not a lot of help in the film leading you down the right path, but there is a
900 number you can call for more information. Only $5 for the first 3 minutes.
