Love is rough -- especially when it has to go down in Los Angeles. Sigh... the
L.A. rom-com, here we go again.
In this rendition on what has become one of cinema's most tried and overdone we
get Martin Henderson (The Ring) and Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) as
just-outta-college midwesterners who come to Hollywood to make it big in the
land of broken dreams. But young love is hard to make last in Hollywood,
especially when you have kooky neighbors like Jennifer Tilly (who talks about
her breasts throughout the film) and Artie Lange.
That's really all there is to this movie, as it quickly reveals it's nothing
more than another rant about how bad the traffic in L.A. is and how phony its
residents can be. Perabo and Henderson have no chemistry together. Both look
(rightly) like they're trying to save their careers from completely plummeting
into nonexistance. Unsurprisingly, this piece of art comes to us from Matt
Cooper, who wrote a stage play upon which this film was based. Try to envision
the pretentious monologues it must contain, and you'll probably start begging
for more of its filler instead.
Skip it.
Aka A Piece of My Heart.
