"Little Voice" Overview

1998
Cast and Crew
Director : Mark HermanProducer : Elizabeth Karlsen
Screenwiter : Mark Herman
Starring : Brenda Blethyn,Jane Horrocks,Ewan McGregor,Philip Jackson,Annette Badland,Michael Caine,Jim Broadbent
Surprisingly powerful despite its cute premise, Horrocks shines as a timid
young woman (known as Little Voice) who has the uncanny ability to unerringly
reproduce the voice of dozens of great female vocalists (eg. Garland, Bassey,
even Marilyn Monroe). Smarmy promoter Caine puts her onstage, where her
neurosis only worsens, but not before a few sparkling hours before the crowds.
Horrocks deserves far more praise than she got for this role, considering she
performed all the phenomenal music for the picture. Caine is great as well,
ditto Blethyn as LV's self-centered mother.

My TV watching programme was thrown over the heap last night when I saw that
Jane Horrocks was in the film LV.
This fantastic Ms Pritchard PM from Lancs was on and no other programme could
stop me watching Jane.
The sweet and happy ending that the Americans so love was not to be had but a
more realistic phsychological catastrophe instead.
All actors and actresses who appeared performed excellently but Jane put on an
Oscar worthy performance and she and the film belong in at least two categories
and the direction in another. The story wins in my view too but perhaps only a
Lancashire lad can understand that.
That Jane sang her own songs and song and dance routines was more than "Ab-fab"
and I doubted for a while that this was so. I'm informed that she really did
do the singing and dancing and for this my deepest respect and amazement.
You've never disappointed yet Jane and probably never will do
Great stuff
