Yikes, this is bad. I didn't think it would be possible to make a movie that
would offend both the religious right and the pro-choice crowd, but False
Prophets manages to do so. In the film, a woman (Lori Heuring) believes she is
carrying a virgin birth (never mind the fact that she has a boyfriend), and
opts to have it aborted. But somehow a fundie Christian group finds out about
this and intervenes in an attempt to get her to have the baby and give it to
them for adoption. Poor Lori is torn every which way until she ends up having
the baby in a field, thanks to a helpful gas station attendent/prophet.
Never in my life have I seen a movie that tried so hard to be serious and came
off as such utter nonsense. Literally none of this movie makes a lick of sense,
and its attempts to be spiritual come across as laughable. The acting is
universally poor and the direction is uninspired. But that script, wow... I
know this was made by Lifetime Television, but even they have to have some
standards, right?

With all due respect to Mr.Null, as I do not know you. However, As far as this
review goes, in my opinion, I could have never imagined someone to be so
incredibly off the mark as you are on this one. Everything that is supposed to
be, you have called it completely the opposite. Which is rather humorous to me
considering you are a "film critic". The whole point of this film was to leave
the decision of the Lori's character open-ended. It's made for the audience to
decide. You create your own ending; NOT to offend anyone. Townsend is giving
you the choice to decide because when it comes down to it, Abortion is a
personal issue no matter how you look at it. Everyone is going to have a
different opinion; and that is what message he was trying to convey. Especially
you being a male, you wouldn't have the first clue (much less anyone) what you
would do in a situation like that. Only if you had been there before. He also
added some key scenes that were based on true stories of his own, so call that
fake and bad writing all you want. I believe the movie (for a first time
director) was tastefully done with actors that really shined through in their
roles. I felt they all gave performances with excellent emotion appropriate to
their parts. No, it's not perfect, but I think it's a pretty excellent start.
Lifetime would be silly to not give this film a second thought because I felt
it was truly compelling.
