Regarded as a cult classic, this is actually a psycho thriller in the guise of a war drama. Donald Sutherland owns the film as a Nazi spy who's deeply infiltrated into British military intelligence during WWII. On a mission, he ends up shipwrecked on an island and shacking up with a wounded/retired/embittered British soldier and his hot stuff wife (Kate Nelligan), with whom he quickly develops a torrid affair. Eventually, though, this devolves into a standard cat and mouse game, as Nelligan figures out what's going on. The last half gets increasingly hokey to the point where you just watch for Sutherland to stare you down some more with his Nicholson-like gaze.
