The Moor Music Festival

The Moor Music Festival is one of contact music's favourite independent festivals. The spirit & feel during the 2 days the festival is on remains true to what a festival really ought to be about!  

A long time ago in a field/forest/woodland not so far away, The Project was created. Dedicated to putting on some of the best parties the area has seen in recent years, its dream was to combine the vibe and eclectic musical styles of past events with a full weekend in which to enjoy them.

This year sees the third all-singing, all-dancing, ass-shaking extravaganza of musical joy set once again in the beautiful countryside of West Yorkshire . With its deeply independent nature the festival remains unsponsored by corporations keeping itself firmly at grass roots level. A party for the people by the people.

The Project crew? Team Moorfest? Well, what can we say? A butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker? We are, actually, a very small team which started with two, quickly becoming three, then before we knew it there were four. Soon after that a fifth joined us and so the team has continued to grow organically, accidentally, serendipitously until now we are bulging with excitement and creative energies with around 20 or so of us beavering away on what is our third MoorFest.

The original inspiration to take what we were already doing a step further and make a full on 'do' came about on a weekend away at a lovely little festival in Sherwood Forest (big up the Sola crew for their loveliness and welcoming nature!). Whilst we scampered around in the woodland dressed as fairies, bears and other curious creatures, someone said "You lot should do something like this back home, it'd be a right laugh!". Well, why not? We thought. WHY NOT? Well, within two hours we had our fantasy line up sorted and were making plans to seek out the best site in the land (well, in West Yorkshire for now!). This in itself took nearly three years (the Moor Music Festival was almost on a very steep hill in another part of Yorkshire but we had to sack it off as the neighbours were just TOO close, it was Too steep and there were loads of prickly plants everywhere!)

Thankfully, the site that is now the spiritual home of Moor Music led us to her and we fell in love from the moment we got there and it seems everyone else who's been there has too.

So, do we do this full time? We wish! Among us you will find a painter and decorators, a retired go go dancer, an electrical engineer, a librarian, a civil servant, an artist, a teacher, a call centre chatterer, the list goes on! What links us though is that we're all creative types and are very passionate about music, people, community, the North, the UK , countryside, beauty, fun, good food, laughing and maybe the odd frosty lager or two. Maybe one day the Moorfest (and maybe it will have a little sister by then) will be our full time job but for now we continue to juggle and cajole and blag our way through the year to bring you something which we hope will get better and better as time goes on...
