The Green Man Festival
Place: Glanusk Park, Brecon Beacons National Park
Dates: From 08/21/2009 To 08/23/2009
Country: United Kingdom
The Green Man Festival 2009 will be returning
to the glorious Glanusk Park in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
This year's festival will see more than
100 acts play psychedelia, folk, indie and americana across 5 stages, while
DJ's playing everything from psychedlia, dub-reggae, modern electro and
stoner rock will keep the party alive right through the night.
He's a bloomin' national treasure ladies
and gentleman, he's hot-footing it to The Green Man 2009 and we couldn't
be more excited if we tried!
Yes, the one-and-only Jarvis Cocker
- Pulp singer, solo star, songwriter extraordinaire and all-round cultural
wit - is bringing 30-odd years of musical know-how, a little Parisian panache
and some good old-fashioned Sheffield steel to what is shaping up to be
a truly storming Green Man line-up. Jarvis joins Friday night headliners
Animal Collective and Sunday's bill-toppers Wilco - ably supported by the
likes of Roky Erickson, special guest Bon Iver and Dirty Three.
With his new eagerly-awaited Steve Albini-produced
album Further Complications due on May 18th, Jarvis is firmly back on the
frontline and firing on all cylinders - as essential, outspoken, humorous,
heroic and melodically irresistible as ever. And just in case you'd
forgotten, he knows a thing or two about headlining festivals.
Grab yourself a medicinal cider for
a lunchtime session at the all-new Far Out Tent as Scots alt-folk co-operative
The Fence Collective hand-pick their favourite songs in the key of Fife
to wash away the cobwebs from night before (assuming you made it back to
your tent, that is). It's a family affair featuring some very special guest
appearances as The Three Craws - a.k.a. King Creosote, The Pictish Trail
and Green Man legend Mr James Yorkston himself - perform a raft of classics
from label stalwarts new and old for your delight and delectation at the
Fence Records Sunday Social. Speaking of which, set the controls for the
heart of the sun as Gordon Anderson - brother of Kenny 'King Creosote'
Anderson - blasts off with former Beta Band pioneers The Aliens to chart
undiscovered universes of unparalleled psychedelic delights. With
two acclaimed albums of extra terrestrial pop-rock mayhem in tow and a
well-earned reputation for chaotic live shows, you won't be able to take
your eyes off this one for a nanosecond.
And would it be teasing if we let slip
some of the other tricks and treats we have up our sleeve for you? Well
how about a EUROPEAN EXCLUSIVE performance from Dirty Three featuring Nick
Cave/Grinderman henchman Warren Ellis; the lost '60s masterpieces of Mexico's
'Sugarman' himself Rodriguez; former Members songwriter and punk survivor
JC Carroll; plus Dent May and his Magnificent Ukuele and some very clever
things from 2009's hotly-tipped young guns Emmy the Great, Noah And The
Whale, Blue Roses and James Yuill.
