The Golden Compass Sequel Axed Message Board and Comments
Comments
I am Catholic and found no message related to Anti Religion. This is a childs
fantasy movie like Harry Potter. And in my opinion teaches children to use their
imaginations. It also shows the power of what one of Gods children can do in
this world. A very positive message indeed....I am hopeful that a sequal will
be made.
Let's see - a group of religious fanatics, ie: the Vatican, who engineered the
Grand Inquisition, witch-hunting, and child molesting staff members, speaks out
against a "Godless" or "anti-God" movie. I see the Magisterium as a parallel to
the Vatican, don't you? Maybe that's why they don't like it - too close to
home. Does New Line Cinema have direct ties to the Catholic Church as to head
what is being "DICTATED" by a "Godless" social club who itself has direct ties
to Organized Crime? Let's see again - they have their own army, a castle, and
they hoard billions in wealth. Go figure. Self-righteous voices didn't dissuade
the sequels to the Potter films. Golden Compass is a great movie, and a sequel
should be made. Period.

They didn't complain about narnia cause its super pro-church.... If you read
the books, its completely about the divine trinity, god creating all... Hell
the Lion, Aslan, is a representation of Jesus... the author said so himself...
=\
Thus why Narnia never gets complaints.
Stupid closeminded twits that protested this...
I agree, if you don't like it, DO NOT WATCH IT.
No reason to stop a film opposing your views. GRR...
Love this movie! Have rented it several dozen times since its release to DVD
and my significant other bought it for me recently. Decided to check on the
sequel status & found this site.
To the Vatican and/or any other religious folks offended by this movie: if you
don't like it, Oh! I know! Don't watch it. You know what they say about those
who get so defensive about certain things: they may be trying to hide
something. Besides, I didn't hear any 'catholic comments' about the Saw movies
or Narnia, so quit with the scape-goat route. It's played out.
In my opinion, God exists and he doesn't care what movies we watch or if we
have kinky sex! So long as we are good to each other and there is no malicious
intent, who cares!
MAKE THE SEQUEL!! My friends and I will see the movie several times in the
theatre before buying it!
Actually, the word is daemon, and is much older and has quite a different
meaning than the christian or jewish use of the word. It's use dates back to
the ancient greeks, and a personal daemon served to help define a persons
character. You could even say it was similar to today's concept of "guardian
angel".
I am an evengelical Christian believer and fan of this movie. The only issue I
have with this movie is the fact that the animal spirits were called, "demons".
Other than that, the movie was GREAT.
I started watching this with my children when I became interested. They went to
sleep and I continued to watch. LOL
I can get past the term they use in the movie to name their spirits. That is
not that big of a deal. I do not see it as anti-religon, (I personally believe
religon is dead in general), nor anti-God. This is a fictional movie for
children,...and their parents. LOL
The Vatican should be more focused on their own internal issues more rather
than to restrict the sequel of a good movie.
Those are my 2 pennies.
As a teacher of small people, I would have to say that none of them perceive anything
but the story. At that age they take everything literally. They see Golden Compass
as just another make believe story. They are taught the difference between fiction
and non-fiction at school. Whereas, those who attend scripture, take those stories as
gospel truth. I don't think that it would be true to say that the Church would try
to stop the story of Lyra any more than they would try and stop the story of Harry
Potter. In any case, they would not be successful even if they were that silly.
i agree with Mrs. Murphy. Parents go crazy over movies like Harry Potter and this
movie which are both just fiction. There is no way kids are even going to catch some
secret anti religion message or w/e anyway. And what age groups watch this again?
7 year olds? Its not like the parents have to protest if they dont want their kids watching.
They just dont give them the money or the ride to see it. end of issue. Plus its
not like there arent graphic things on tv ur kids are more likely to have access
to.

I think that it is a shame that adults have trouble separating fact from fantasy
and fiction. Stories such as The Golden Compass are purely fictional and for entertainment.
IF the powers that be would pay attention to some of the more realistic movies,
the ones that portray actual people in real life situations with crime, murder, violence....that's
the sort of stuff that young adults and children should not be watching. Get that
crap off the screen and leave the fantasy movies alone.
