I am thrilled to learn that Councilwoman Martha Reeves has undertaken to create
Artistic Remembrances of Motown Artists by erecting statues in their honor. I
propose that the first statue erected be that of Martha Reeves & The
Vandellas. Councilwoman Martha Reeves is the Motown Artist that remained in
Detroit, as a living presence of the Motwon Legend, and to serve the citizens
of Detroit. When I appeared there in 2006 at the Detroit International Jazz
Festival, Councilwoman Martha Reeves was in the VIP section. She has kept
Motown alive in Detroit by her very presence, and as a legendary national
treasure, she should be the first statuette. When I appeared in Amsterdam, The
Netherlands, with the 6TH WARD BRASS BAND OF NEW ORLEANS at Vondel Park 2007,
and Detroit Legend, JOHN SINCLAIR -- Courtesy of the Mayor of Amsterdam who
never allowed performances in the park before, I saw larger than life statues
of the painter, Rembrandt in Vondel Park. so, I can visualize what
Councilwoman Reeves has in Mind. My personal passion, besides music -- is Art
History and museums of the world, especially curatorship of unique
perspectives, of which Councilwoman Reeve's vision is one. -- that is right on
time. This would be a master strategy as well, in tourism attractions to the
Motor City. But above all, this project will be a fitting tribute to Motown
Music History. At a time when there is dire economic news, what a great thing
to do. Raise the spirits of the people of Detroit by going forward with this
project of Councilwoman Reeves Statue Project.
