The southern stadiums and arenas are half empty and the fans act like they just banged a sack of heroin compared to NYC,Chi or Bos. WTF are u doing in kuwait? If u aren't in the military u shouldn't be ANYWHERE in that part of the world!I'm BULL*** having our tax dollars (America in case u haven't heard is going BROKE!)go to "rescue" people like you who go to places like Iraq and kuwait to live a lifestyle you never be able to have in the states. You know if you really cared about the U.S. it would be a good idea to build up the economy here, especially in the vast unproductive rural areas (most of the damn country, the USA would be a 3rd world country without NYC,Chi,L.A and other big cities)where many military personel come from and are forced to enter the service out of necessity not because they're more f***ing patriotic than from a blue state LOL! There are PLENTY of servicemen and woman from the northeast and west coast a-hole. I'm one of them. And Brad Pitt is a dick. If I was s***faced I'd probably F with him too.

I am so tired of these narcissistic megalomaniac celebrities getting on their soapboxes passing off their unsolicited self absorbed illinformed opinions as fact! You run into some over-served bar dwellers spouting anti-american sentiments and that in your mind reflects the sentiments of all Europeans? Message to Brad Pitt, you live in a bubble, a tiny protective unrealistic bubble, you know absolutely nothing about life in the real world. Your impression of an isolated encounter reflects your ignorance. I have traveled Europe, and you clearly do not know what you are talking about. While Europeans may disagree with our politics and don’t particularly care for GWB (didn’t care for BC either), my experiences have been very positive and incredibly gracious. Your ignorance belittles Europeans, as they are not all obnoxious small minded ingrates as you seem to imply they are.

It has always been fashionable for Hollywood denizens to find a reason for Americans to feel bad about themselves. This incident with Mr. Pitt is no different, the truth is that the world does not hate Americans, they hate our current government and its leaders. I highly doubt Mr Pitt's actions abroad were truely as polite as reported. I too share the sentiment that we are the greatest nation on earth, but I also feel that any American (and Frenchman) traveling abroad should first be required to take a course in humility.

Just because you can pretend to be someone you're not on screen or carry a tune does NOT make you politicially astute or wise in the ways of international culture. I've been blessed to be able to travel in this world and 99.9% of people I come in contact with are very polite and kind to Americans. Sometimes some of the men were a little too kind...... I'm going to Greece and Turkey next month and expect to be treated kindly there. Get a life, Mr. Pitt. Time to come back to the real world!

The Pitt story is so obviously a political ploy as to be unbelievable! Unreal! Only a complete moron wouldn't see this for exactly what it is -- liberal/democrat propaganda, pure and simple!! I figured they were going to be talking about his new movie Babel. No, they're talking about a movie he made roughly two years ago! And then we're supposed to care about what a few foul-mouthed Dutch drunks yelled at an American back then?!? Are Dutch drunks considered to be a reliable poll of European sentiment?!? It boggles the mind how low Hollywoodians and liberal/democrat operatives will stoop to further their causes. What if the drunks had yelled out something like, "We love you American. Come have drink with us!". Would that make the news? Well, it has to pass one major criteria -- it is anti-American, i.e. liberal/Democrat? No. Then the story would never see the light of day. And yet how many nice and encouraging statements are made towards Hollywood actors? Many more than negative ones, you can bet! Ever hear about them, especially around election time?

Thank you to the guy in kuwait. When he states: "Pitt and the media (including this place to publish this) are biased idiots. Nationalism is alive and well throughout the world except in blue state America", he states nothing but the truth. But not only is there a natural nationalism going on in those European (and the rest of the world) countries. Don't you all understand that the rest of the world learns their attitudes towards America and Americans from our own media? I've been to Europe and they are shocked to learn that there are some people in the USA that actually agree with the president. They are astonished to learn that some Americans still think their country is good and generous and should remain strong. You know why? Because they only read the opposite view. Where? In their press that reprints or reports on what our own media has to say. So, if you want to blame anyone about the anti-American attitudes some of you encounter, tell the NY Times, the Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek Magazine - and let's not forget CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR. They are the root of the anti-American bias you will see reflected by our neighbors throughout the world.

You don't have to be a lawyer to know that when the DOJ indicts you, and puts you on trial, and doesn't care if you are found innocent, that that is criminal, completely immoral, 100% devoid of scruples and 100% unscrupulous. Robert Adams made a big time about how he reprsented the U.S. If he is similar to everyone else representin the U.S. you can easily see why no one likes us. In our years living in Europe, we never encountered hostile attitude towards us EXCEPT in a parking garage in Amsterdam.. and it was in front of our very young children.. The opinion of a Dutchman is the last thing I would be worried about in this life. Dutch culture verges on the contemptible, and is certainly nothing to aspire to. Let the Dutch have their drunken opinions -- nobody cares anyway. For an illustration of Dutch courage and backbone, one need look no futher than the brave Dutch soldirs who obediently handed over 8,000 civilians to genocidal Serb killers in Srebrenica so they could save a handful of their own. The Dutch have no claim to moral superiority. If anything, their clam properly lies in massive moral inferiority.

I absolutely agree with tulipred's comment. Anti-Americanism is OLD, OLD news. I've been an American living in the Asia Pacific and Europe since 1987. Brad Pitt's encounter reminds me of several I've had in Sydney, Australia back in the 1980's, and Paris recently. Is it worse today? Yes. Primarily due to Iraq? NO. Bush? NO. The under-40 internet millionaires that were created in the US during the late 1990's? ABSOLUTELY. It highlighted our extreme success and the relative failure of most of the rest of the world; i.e. American hyper-dominance. A travel tip for Brad from an old expat: NEVER open your mouth around drunks overseas for almost ANY reason. It's far better to be thought of as anti-social or stupid. I lived and worked in Geneva, Switzerland in the mid through late 1970's. I ran into this kind of antiAmerican sentiment all the time...when I was heard speaking American-English. In one case, while in a department store, a man picked up an American item and threw it at me yelling for me to go home to the USA where I belonged and to take all American products with me and leave the rest of the world alone. I knew the store manager and he was horrified. He protected me from the attacker and escorted me out of the store while other workers took care of the offender. But I found that for every hater of the USA, there were many more who loved us and what the country stood for. Wasn't in the 1960's when the book, "The Ugly American," was so popular? This antiAmerican sentiment is nothing new!! Nor will it ever go away. That's the price we pay for being the "leader" of the world.

For the life of me I can't understand this attitude--which is so prevalent in liberal circles--that America is always wrong, that we're always doing something bad to make foreginers "hate us." Brad Pitt, like so many Hollywood stars is not in touch with the real world. He & all his friends have spent the last five years trashing the president of the U.S.A. and telling the world how ashamed they are of America. What does he expect some drunk over seas to say to him? I was verbally & physically attacked in an Atlanta hospital - in the U.S.A. - where I was a patient because a male nurse ASSUMED I voted for George W. Bush. It was frighting, so frightning I did not say a word and he quit poking me in my arm shouting at me when the tears began to run down my cheeks. I blame that on the 75% of the American press who have hated George W. Bush since election 2000, before we were attacked on September 11, 2001 simply because they belive Bush stole the election or the Supreme court gave him the electon. But Brad Pitt knows that the Democrats continued to loose in 2002 & 2004. We have a "mid-term" election November 7, 2006 and the only way "they" - Hollywood know how to campaign for their candidates is to be embarrased of America who has given them so much and spread hate for George W. Bush. The Dixie Chicks have a movie out at this time in America...they feel sorry for themselves that some country music radio d.j.'s and fans destroyed their C.D.s and refused to play/listen or buy their music anymore after the Dixie Chicks told a London concert that they are ashamed that George W. Bush is from their state of Texas. They, like George W. Bush, or any political pundit or candidate have received death threats which are horrible. There is a movie out now which shows George W. Bush with his real image being assassinated - how sick is that free speech produced by talented, itelligent, billionaires & millionaires? America has freedom of speech - America is a wonderful country and most Americans do not have the same platform to express their opinion about an elected official to people around the world - EXCEPT in FORUMS LIKE THIS! What do they expect some people to buy into? My son served in the U.S. Army four years. He was stationed in Germany 18 months. He wrote home "Mom as we drove through a beautiful town in Germany the people lined the streets to say - GO HOME AMERICANS" Many people in Europe & around the world have not liked the presence of U.S. troops in their countries during peace time - and they don't like us now. I believe prejudices are handed down from one generation to the next or they are taught in today's society. Brad Pitt loves America I'm sure as America loves him. But he/they don't realize that when they trash Bush, they trash a lot of us. George W. Bush was the first American president who was attacked on American soil and lost 3,000 innocent men, women & children at the hands of al Qaeda terrorists - we have leaders in the world today who want to kill Jews & Americans NOW. Isn't that a lovely? I simply wonder why the American media, one huge corporation, Time Warner/ABC/CNN/NYT/AOL/TIME and other entities of Time Warner believe it at the best interest of America or the peole in Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan, etc., to report only negative news while pushing their own personal agendas on people around the world. If you read the news in America today, you would think you were in another country. CNN ran a video given them by al Qaeda terrorits showing the terrorist shooting American soldiers...CNN does not agree it is propoganda for the terrorist, they believe it is news. They have no pride and they have brainwashed many people, like my mother for example that we "were not REALLY attacked on 9/11 - not the entire country - they bombed one of those buildings when Clinton was president" my mother adores Bill Clinton - he is a rock star around the world. He was nice to the terrorist who attacked Americans three times on his watch. He fights to this day that he did more than anyone to kill bin Laden. I suppose he did. If he says it, and his administration says it, and Hollywood who idolizes him says it - it must be true. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS - I WAS BORN & RAISED IN AMERICA - I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN - I WOULD NEVER TRASH ANOTHER COUNTRY TO ANYONE - WHERE DID GOOD MANNERS GO?

I've been to Amsterdam several times before and after the middle east nastiness and I've never encountered anything like that. The dear Dutch were probably more riled up about Pitt's bad bicycle etiquette than his nationality. It just sounds so cool to say "you f*cking American..." Besides, when was the last time you saw a real ethnic Dutchman in Amsterdam? Russians, yes. Moroccans, yes. Eurotrash, yes. Ameri-trash, yes. Dutch? Rarely.

That's hogwash. There's drunks everywhere. They would have started a fight with anyone. I travel to Europe frequently and I find people there to be very polite and welcoming to Americans. They may not agree with our President, but there's no hatred towards Americans, in general. Mr. Pitt was probably travelling at a high speed on his bike and nearly knocked the drunks over.

Brad, You should know better. And I think you do. Since when did you start worrying about how foreigners percieve us. It used to be worry about how we percieve foreigners. Oh well, as long as we are at fault, that is all that matters to Hollywood. Would you be concerned if a bunch of drunks in Holland started sreaming at some Brits? Small minds often have big egos. So, go ahead and congratulate yourself on your worthy observation. Then celebrate by flying to some other country on your private jet or whatever else it is that you use to burn too much of our finite resources.

This story and headline exemplify the misleading and hate-filled bias against America in the UK media. Just because some drunk guys shout at Brad Pitt, all of the World hates America? In the most unscientific poll ever (1 person says so), a completely altered person or persons (drunk) make a single comment in the middle of the night and that's news? OK - here's my poll: I say Contact Music is the most superficial, worthless and therefore EVIL media source in the UK. Tied with the Guardian. It must be true because I said so and I REALLY believe it. And I'm not even drunk. Print that - or maybe only celebrities on bikes count in your polls?

anti-Americanism has been deeply embedded in Europe for years. However, when we needed America's help from the Germans and then the Soviets we kept that hidden. Now that we're no longer afraid of any threats, it's in vogue to spew hatred for USA. Just wait until the Jihadists become bigger threats to the EU.

I have lived in Europe for 15 years and I have not had an experience like this related to the fact that I am an American. I have come across drunks who were rude, but they didn't know I was an American. They were rude to whom ever they met. I have two questions for Pitt: How did they know you were an American? Perhaps they recognized you as an actor, but I wouldn't expect that of drunks. Lots of people speak English well in Holland and there is no reason to assume you are an American. I have had people think I was from the UK, during the football (soccer) season and be a bit rude. What other kind of exposure to foreigners do you have? I teach in highschool as well as work with adults, and get around Europe like I would if I were living in the States. I have not encountered across the board hatred for Americans. I have met people who didn't like George Bush, but it is no surprise. Nothing positive is ever said about him in the media - though there are many positive things that could be said. When President Bush was in Bratislava, Slovakia for a speach, I was there and he was well received.

Christopher Hitchens put it best: "A country that attempted to be in everybody’ s good books would be quite paralyzed. The last time everybody said they liked the United States (or said that they said they liked the United States) was just after Sept. 11, when the nation was panicked and traumatized and trying to count its dead. Well, no thanks. This is too high a price to be paid for being popular."

If Americans are hated in Europe you can thank Hollywood for that! They love to knock their own country when traveling promoting their lousy movies.

Oh yes, this is an adequate barometer of 'global' anti-American sentiment. A group of drunk*, Dutchmen**, threaten to kill Pitt***, after he swerves to miss them on a bicycle****. * There is not necessarily veritas in vino, sometimes just angry drunks. ** Only one city. *** Angry drunk, and they might just not be Pitt fans. **** They'd probably threaten a Frenchman who almost hit them on a bicycle.

In my opinion he can thank our own media for this. The MSM sucks up to the terrorists and stabs its own countrymen in the back. This is the fallout - other nationalities start beliving that we, the USA, are the problem!

I just returned from europe and, as has always been the case, some people showed a decidedly anti-American attitude while most were friendly and curious. I had a great time and wouldn't allow the drunken ignorance of a couple of people sour me toward the hundreds of others we dealt with.
