TM history -- Robert N. Bellah meets with Robert Winquist, a well-known TM movement insider and faculty member of Maharishi International University. Robert Bellah was Ford Professor of Sociology and Comparative Studies, UC Berkeley and author of the highly regarded book "Beyond Belief: Essays on Religion in a Post-Traditional World". During the meeting, as related in his sworn affidavit for the (1977) New Jersey Court case, he "expressed [his] opinion that TM definitely seemed to be a religion and I wondered why the people in the TM movement denied its religious nature. [Winquist] replied by affirming that it is certainly true that TM is religious, but stated that they didn't admit that to be the case for public relations reasons." - - - - - - - note: “Transcendental Meditation", due to the "Puja" (chanting & worship) initiation ceremony & other religious factors, was banned from being taught in public schools by a U.S. District Court ruling. The Court ruled that Transcendental Meditation was "a religion" -- see ruling of The United States District Court, District of New Jersey, Docket No. 76-341 (H.C.M.) Civil Action, in the case of Alan B. Malnak. et al., Plaintiffs, v. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, et al., Defendants, in a summary judgment issued October 19, 1977, followed by an order and judgment, filed December 12, 1977.” Subsequently, this federal ruling was upheld (in 1979) by the U.S. Appeals Court (Philadelphia). - - - - - - - - - - BE INFORMED: "An Open Letter from a (former) TM Initiator" -- What you should know about the "Transcendental Meditation" religious-political Organization -- history, beliefs, practices, marketing tactics & deliberate deception: view webpages => www.trancenet.net/personal/abe/abe12097.shtml and trancenet.net/groups/tm.shtml _______

It was the year of the Partridge Family, eight cent postage stamps and blue jeans with bell bottoms. That was 1971 and I was an under achieving senior in a middle American High School when I saw a funny looking poster on the way to my American History class. It had a large black and white picture of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on it and a lecture on Transcendental Meditation* was announced for the next day in the school auditorium. The speaker was a young man in a suit who spoke serenely of the silence deep within us and of the simple mental technique by which we could experience it and enjoy its benefits in our day to day life. I was very impressed with his calm demeanor and he seemed to really embody the principles of which he spoke. I attended the seven step course and boy was it great. I experienced a deep, sweet indescribable silence right on the day I learned. Right away my life began to change. Not because of any information I was given but because of the beautiful experience of deep inner silence that I now experienced twice a day as I practiced my Transcendental Meditation in the privacy of my bedroom. Suddenly my life became hopeful again and I was full of enthusiasm for it. Immediately my grades improved and I was accepted to college. After a few months I spontaneously quit smoking and became a vegetarian. I entered college, made the Deans List and met a beautiful young girl whose passions were oil painting and Italian food. She also learned TM and we meditated together every chance we got. If we had horses we would have rode off into the sunset together but instead we stayed home got straight A’s and went on to get our degrees in grand style.

This is concert was great!!! And what a worthy cause. Meditation is among the best things to spend money on for our kids. Just look at the scientific research verifying TM's benefits and what doctors and researchers from medical schools are saying at www.DoctorsonTM.org . The NIH has so far spent $24 million researching TM's effects on brain function and cardiovascular health, and the science grants keep coming.

Re The TM Technique: You know you have found something valuable, when the CLOSER you look the BETTER you realize it is! I looked into it and found out the 350 peer-reviewed research studies were conducted on over 10,000 subjects who were practicing the TM technique. These studies included numerous randomized controlled trials, along with eight meta-analyses of 597 separate studies on the effects of meditation. The studies were conducted at Harvard Medical School, Yale Medical School, Stanford Medical School, University of PA, University of Kentucky, and more than 200 other independent institutions, and were done by 360 scientists from 29 countries. All total, over 30,0000 subjects (participating in TM, other techniques or controls) were involved in the hundreds of research studies on TM. The majority of these studies compared TM to other practices or control groups. This is rigorous science that's able to separate the wheat from the chaff. My thanks to all involved.

(Be aware and informed) ----- The corrupt (standard) modus operandi of the TM missionary shills is to DELIBERATELY LIE & to MISINFORM school STUDENTS, PARENTS / GUARDIANS, & staff about the 'Transcendental Meditation' organization & procedures. The TM movement has used various front-organizations and program-labels over the years. One of their current evangelical guises is the innocuous-sounding "QUIET TIME" program in schools. The "Quiet Time" program permission slips (given to students along with their lunch forms, etc. at the beginning of the school year) only mention the slogan-label "Quiet Time" -- however these permission slips DO NOT PROVIDE ANY ACCURATE DESCRIPTION WHATSOEVER of the TM procedures & ("Puja" religious worship & chanting) initiation ceremony, nor any mention of the "Transcendental Meditation" organization or background info. about TM agendas ("World Plan", "yogic flyers", "crowned Rajas", etc.) See website for more info. -- cultnews .com

Is this TM "Puja" ceremony chanting appropriate for a public school ??? --- especially when there is deliberate deception & obfuscation by the TM missionaries/fanatic acolytes when communicating with school staff, students & parents --- Here is an excerpt (translated from the original Sanskrit) of the chanting that occurs during the standard TM "Puja" initiation ceremony (along with an altar featuring a painting of a Guru, incense, candles, flowers & offerings) -- in which individual students each receive a "secret" (& supposedly unique & "meaningless") mantra. However, in fact, each TM student's mantra is actually derived from the name of one of several main Hindu gods; these generic mantras are routinely assigned based solely on the particular student's age in accordance with a chart -- "To LORD NARAYANA, to lotus-born BRAHMA the Creator, to VASHISHTHA to SHAKTI and his son, PARASHAR, To VYASA, to SHUKADEVA, to the great GAUDAPADA, to GOVINDA, ruler among the yogis, to his disciple, SHRI SHANKARACHARYA, to his disciples PADMA-PADA and HASTA-MALAKA, And TROTAKACHARYA and VARTIKA-KARA, to others, to the tradition of our Masters, I bow down. To the abode of the wisdom of the SHRUTIS, SMRITIS and PURANAS, to the abode of kindness, to the personified glory of the LORD, to SHANKARA, emancipator of the world, I bow down. To SHANKARACHARYA, the redeemer, hailed as KRISHNA and BADARAYANA, to the commentator of the BRAHMA SUTRAS, I bow down. To the glory of the Lord I bow down again and again, at whose door the whole galaxy of gods pray for perfection day and night..." source: trancenet.net/secrets/puja/tradt (.shtml)

Glad to hear Moby like his TM.. I have been doing it for years and find it wonderful at relieving stress and staying healthy. It is so easy to do and very enjoyable - just close your eyes and away you go. Your minds settles down very quickly and you body gets very relaxed. Afterwards you feel so fresh and alert. I would recommend it to everyone. And thanks for doing the great concert in New York, Moby. It was a great night.

TM vanity-research & pseudo-science conducted by planted shills -- "The Middle European Journal of Medicine found that out of 700 studies on TM spanning 40 years, only 10 were conducted in the clinical tradition of using strict control groups, randomization and placebos. Of those 10, four of the studies recruited subjects that had already shown an interest in TM." cultnews (.com)

I was so surprised to read the strange comments just now about the instructions TM teachers receive regarding communicating the merits of the TM Programme to the press and public. I have been practising TM since 1967. Why? because it is effective and benefits me so very much on every level of my life. I have also been teaching the TM Programme since 1971 and was always instructed to "speak the truth sweetly". This is not only good advice for working with the press but also in any communication. When my son learned TM at the age of 11 in 1993, his schoolteacher - a Catholic nun, who did not know he had learned TM - commented at the parent teacher conference the following year that she didn't know what had happened to him that year, but that he had changed and that it was almost like an "enlightening" had happened. It is marvellous to see young students who otherwise cannot sit still for 30 seconds, able to sit and quietly, peacefully meditate for 10 and then to come out of their TM practise back to their activity with dynamic energy and yet be anchored and settled within their deepest being. Definitely an "enlightening"!

The following information is a direct quote from an article published in the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (JAMA): "Ex-members say that the TM movement trains them in the kinds of deception noted here. "I was taught to lie and to get around the petty rules of the 'unenlightened' in order to get favorable reports into the media, " said one. "We were taught how to exploit the reporters' gullibility and fascination with the exotic, especially that [which] comes from the East. We thought we weren't doing anything wrong because we were told it was often necessary to deceive the unenlightened to advance our guru's plan to save the world." see reference article re: "T.M.'s Deceptions" -- Rick Ross Institute or CultNews (. com)

Moby was fantastic as part of the cast of legendary musicians Saturday night that flowed through set after set of inspiring rock and roll with many artists making guest appearances on songs for others. During the many stage set ups David Lynch, Laura Dern, Howard Stern and Jerry Seinfeld added comments and comedy on the positive influence Transcendental Meditation has had in their lives. Background film clips of youngsters in schools around the world who practice TM gave us hope for a new era of peace and happiness. A charming and delightful evening that transcended all my expectations!

It's a technique, pure and simple. there's no belief required, and no dogma. People of all religions practice it and enjoy the benefits. love moby. love tm. love life. happy easter!
