I find the commments about HIV testing to be extremely ignorant. Just because someone gets tested does not mean they are promiscuous or a "slut/whore". If Christian conservatives care so much about their fellow Americans, why don't they get tested themselves and donate some blood to the Red Cross while they're at it. There are lots of people Bashing Bush. 55% of the country detests Bush and his policies and decisions. Its a constitutional right to speak out against the President, we do not live in a monarchy. As for celebs speaking out, if someone asks them a question, they have the right to answer them as truthfully as they want. You can either dismiss their comments or think about it. People say stupid things everyday, its the American right. Abstinence education - no intercourse before marriage logically promotes Young marriage. If you do not use or advocate birth control, then a young married couple will have a greater chance at pregnancy. A young married woman may have more children and not have an opportunity to obtain further education or gain higher wages. Its not everyone's choice to settle down and have babies out of high school. There are many Young Americans who want higher education and to focus on careers.

Hey test321 ...and the one or two others that don't get it... A great many of us, as you can see...are simply offended when some hollywood "flavor of the month" decides they need to open their mouth about social issues...you and I have no other way to voice our opinion, so we use forums such as this... I agree with you that parents should stop letting the tv and internet raise our children...by the way, I was not looking at some " movie site" online when I came across this article disguised as "news".... It's not just about Bush bashing...she and other hollywood people are so OUT OF TOUCH with the average person(not to mention the journalism 101 flunkie that wrote the piece), that I want to speak up... I must say, ...you are the IGNORANT one if you can't understand that.

Wow, all of these right wing conservatives who've posted comments are the most IGNORANT people I've ever encountered. If you are so righteous, then STOP reading about celebrities! I implore you, it will only make you want to unplug your televisions and stop reading newspapers. Lets look at HIV testing: Even if you are in a monogamous relationship, how do you know your spouse has not cheated on you? The Religious Right and conservatives have Demonized HIV testing so that if you get tested, you are automatically engaged in promiscuous behavior. I am so proud to read my fellow Conservative Americans call women "Sluts" and "Whores." This is exactly the type of behavior that exemplifies the Christian values of mysogeny and hate. As for Abstinence education, sure it is debatable. Why not have Churches teach Abstinence education? and have schools teach sex-ed, it might actually serve the purpose of EDUCATION, and let people decide what is right for them. Here's an idea for Conservatives, Stop reading about Celebrities and worrying about their effect on kids and start Parenting! Turn off your televisions! Turn off the internets!

The rest of the country is sick of the Religious Right spreading their religious zeolotry on how everyone and non-Christians should live. The only thing that offended you guys was that she CRITICIZED PRESIDENT BUSH. The US Constitution guarantees every American their right to criticize the president, otherwise this would be a Monarchy. There is nothing wrong with get tested for HIV. You all may want to think about donating blood sometime and helping your fellow americans.

Life is so tough for a twenty-something millionaire. What is so ridiculous about these "liberal artists" is that they actually believe their lives are making a difference to the rest of us. They claim to care so much about the environment, but will always been seen traveling back and forth to the film festivals or their personal getaways in private jets, let alone the limos they use for road traveling. They claim to care so much about people but usually have more animal pets in their homes then progeny. “Hey, there’s Fido and Fluffy, there’s Coco and Buster, that’s’ Garfield and Duke, and, ohh, by the way, that’s my kid from my second marriage.” They have a divorce ratio of about three out of every four marriages with “irreconcilable differences” the leading cause of divorce. In other words, the Hollywood catch phrase for adultery. WHAT HYPOCRITES! And Scarlet cares so much about the world around her that she even gets an AIDS check-up every six-months. WOW! You go girl. The question is though, just what kind of lifestyle does she lead if she needs an AIDS check every six-months?

Well, here's a newsflash for you Scarlet ... not everyone lives such a lifestyle that requires that they be tested. Further, while she may have been raised by liberal parents to think sex with anyone anytime is okay, other parents don't want their children to grow up thinking that way, exposing themselves to life-threatening diseases, promulgated by ignoramouses in Hollywood.

avc824: you state: " Unplanned pregnancy is always a result of lack of education, low income, and youth (that's from the U.S. census bureau.)" Unplanned pregnancy is caused by unprotected sex. It does not matter the age, social standing, education or level of income. People from ALL walks of life have unwanted pregnancies... from the poor to the rich. There are condoms in every drug store, pharmacy, etc.. they are available to everyone. I do not support planned parenthood organizations, but they make supplies available to anyone regardless of social status. I believe the only way to prevent disease and unwanted pregnancy is not having sex. However, education is important also. PARENTS (yes, I said PARENTS) should take that responsibility. After all they are the PARENTS who should be teaching their children about life... the good and the bad. Its not up to the school systems or the government. It is the parents responsibility. I think as part of the "educational training" all young men and women should be forced to watch an abortion take place. Let them see in advance what the woman will be put through, forced to see what the aborted baby looks like after the procedure. Let them see interviews of the psycological impact killing a life has on the woman. Let them know in advance what they will be doing to that child. Most women who have never had one have no idea what will happen.... let them know in advance (including the guys cause it takes two people to get pregnant)... maybe if they saw what was aborted... maybe they would think before they had sex... or take steps to prevent the pregnancy. Pro-abortionist say.. "the woman has the right to do what she wants with her body"... ok, but do they ever share the emotional & physical impact the abortion has on the woman? Nope, they don't. Do they ever tell the part about how the more you do it, the easier it becomes... just like a drug.. its the simple way. My ex-wife had three abortions in High School. This was with a guy she was dating before she and I met. Was she poor.. nope, she was from a well off family. Was she under educated? nope, she has a 3.9 GPA. Was pregnancy prevention available to her? Yes. But she still go pregnant 3 times. Stupidity comes to mind! What no one ever tell or talks about... is the psycological impact on the woman. Even after we got married years later.. she was still impacted by the decisions she made back in H.S. How many other women regret the abortion after they have had it? No one ever talks about those facts and statistics. Condoms are not 100% effective... they break, they can leak, etc. The Pill is not 100% effective.. I have known many poeple who have gotten pregnant on the pill. It does not matter what kind of birth control one uses, none are 100% effective... the only one that is 100% is not having sex. As for Ms. Johansson she is entitled to her opinion, just like all of us are. I think when she contracts an STP or AIDS it will be amazing how quickly she jumps to the other side and starts talking about not having sex to prevent pregnancy and disease. Of course.. getting tested twice a year.. how many people while she have spread the disease to between "check-ups"?

Um...if abstinance is NOT the only way to prevent STDs, why does this person feel the need to be tested for HIV twice a year? Doesn't she use some of the alternate foolproof methods? Oh yea...there aren't any. What a coincidence: abstinance is not only the only 100% foolproof way to prevent STDs, it is also the only 100% foolproof way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. But we shouldn't teach kids restraint and self-control, now should we? We should teach them to do whatever feels good, but get tested twice a year so they'll know if they have contracted an incurable, potentially fatal virus. That makes perfect sense. It's OK to play Russian Roulette...just be sure to use a dropcloth so your brains don't stain the carpet.

An unconvenient truth as Al Gore might say.

Yes we are free to voice all opinions and I welcome ideas that do not agree with mine. If I take the time and consider the ideas of others that are different than mine, maybe I can grow a little as a person. I think that concept is one that has become clouded in recent years. So much today is motivated by anger and hatred and that is not helpful to individuals or the planet.

"We are supposed to be liberated in America but if our President had his way, we wouldn't be educated about sex at all." Hmmm... yes, yes, I understand now. Let's break this down class: What she said: "We are supposed to be..." What she means: "My views should be taught as the truth to all." What she said: "...liberated in America..." What she means: "Any and all behavior, sexual in nature, is good no matter what... because America is the land of the free." (I'm not sure that's in the Constitution) What she said: "... but if our President had his way..." What she means: "I am a spoiled brat and hate male authority figures in my life." What she said: "... we wouldn't be educated..." What she means: "Sex is all the education you need." What she said: "...about sex at all." What she means: "I like sex, so I will do it, no matter the consequences." Is that what our forefathers fought for? To have Scarlett Johansson speaking about the president, sex, and education? The sad part is she is influencing young girls to go out and give away something they should cherish just to be hip, cool and pleasurable. The lie continues thanks to weak women like Scarlett Johansson. The coolest, hippest, most womanly thing a girl can do is save herself sexually for her husband. That is not being a prude, it is taking control of your life and your body in a respectful way. Spread the word, George Bush is not the problem here, compromised, weak-willed women like Scarlett Johansson are.

Anybody who has the necessity to get an HIV test that often is an idiot, and is certainly missing the best sex because it's not possible to have "the good stuff" with so many partners. But that's just common in our culture today isn't it? Everyone is looking in the wrong places. Additionally, I have some news for you Ms. Johansson, sweetie. Abstinence IS the only way to be sure you don't contract STD's. Condoms are NOT SUREFIRE PROTECTION. Wake up, girl. But isn't it typical of Hollywood, they are always the last to be informed of anything and everything. Their movies are a dream world, and their everyday world is a dream world too. I don't understand how ignorant people can be. Abstinence is the only fail safe way to not get STDs. Condoms have failure rates. Birth control has failure rates. Our government if it must educate about STDs and sex should stay on the abstinence side. It should not be implicit about endorsing sex before or outside marriage.

Holy cow! Is this actually a "news" story? How exactly has Bush sought to make aborition illegal nationally? Also, the state of Texas has taught that abstinence is the only 100% effective way of preventing pregnancy and STD's. How is this newsworthy, and WHO cares what she thinks anyway?

Another deadly tirade from an actress who claims she is smarter than all simply because she whores around but tries to cover her immoral conduct by being socially right and having HIV tests twice a year. The truth still remains that abstinence is the only sure way to avoid STD's and unwanted pregnancies. All other methods have failure rates when it comes to diseases and pregnancies. The ensuing conduct also leads to other emotional, physical and relational problems too. Scarlett is not my leader nor is she a thinker with good reasoning. Live with the pigs and you soon become one.

I am constantly amused by the remarks made by actors and actresses about President Bush. Mr. Bush has a BA from Yale and an MBA from Harvard University. In addition, President Bush received higher academic grades at Yale and Harvard than did either John Kerry or Al Gore. His SAT and ACT scores are higher also. I find it immensely amusing when people who are principally High School dropouts (Cher), those lucky to make it out of HS (Barbara S and The Dixie Chicks) along with a host of others feel that they know more about world affairs or political issues than a grown man with a significantly higher level of education and accomplishment than his critics who are principally ignorant on any issue.

Who wrote this article? Bush isn't attempting to ban abortion in all fifty states, you dumbass. The SC has already ruled on most cases of abortion in general. True, the grisly, inhumane practice of partial abortion is being decided on soon...as it should be. People should view Partial Birth Abortion (a.k.a. as the Mengele Procedure) on youtube.com and decide on your own. But to suggest that Bush is attempting to ban abortion is just the kind of reactionary reporting that is liberal reactionary blog-level garbage. Get real and just report the truth!

" I do not have to get tested because I am in a monogomous relationship with a faithful woman. That seems less complicated to me. In my eyes, she is more beautiful than Scarlett any day." Aww, that's so sweet! Too bad Scarlett will never have that kind of love. Unfortunately, it sounds like she feels the need for the wrong kind of attention and she won't get true love & respect that way. BTW, I don't have to get tested either. Monogamy is awesome when two people love & respect each other. You don't need anyone else to have sex with. It's not complicated at all. I just don't want anyone else. Having sex with anyone other than my husband seems totally foreign to me. That may seem backward to liberals. But my life is so much better this way. I don't have to worry about "getting tested every 6 months" and I know true love.

The really sad thing is...she'll probably never know the true meaning of making love. Sex is so much hotter when you're with someone you love more than life itself. It sounds like she's spreading her legs for anybody if she has to get tested twice a year. Too bad she'll never know the sexual intensity true love can bring you. Scarlett honey, sex is something incredibly private and personal. To share it with so many people cheapens you as a person. I don't care if you're a man or woman, if you're a whore, it does you no good. Bigger question: Why is she risking her life for a silly movie career by sleeping with so many people? One day, she'll get a positive HIV result and how many people will she have infected in that 6 month period? Is that really "socially responsible?" And another sad thing, is that liberals don't understand any of the above. You miss out on so much by sharing that part of yourself with so many people.

Ms. Johansson is a fool - a careless, irresponsible fool. As a counselor of teens for over 25 years, I have seen many young teens (especially girls) destroyed by pre-marital sex. They are too immature to be engaging in adult behavior, yet are pressured to do so by their peers or just want to experiment. Teens are not mature enough to handle the responsibility of a sexual relationship. Those I've kept in contact with over the years have given me a lot of input that I use with teens I work with now. The majority who had sex before marriage regretted it (especially those who transmitted STD's they didn't know they had). The majority of those who were virgins before they got married have gone on to have healthier marriages based on trust and open communication, moreso than their peers who slept around. Ms. Johansson needs to stop talking - she only embarrassed herself with her naivete.

People are so stupid. Why is there this prevailing argument that you can do whatever you want without having to live with the consequences? Like it or not, an abortion snuffs the life of a person. Instead of banging every Tom, Dick, and Harry on the planet, try some self control. Nobody really likes a whore anyway. Make abortions available when they are necessary, and then maybe there won't be the proliferation of STDs (you actually wouldn't need to get tested twice a year, but then a positive test is too late anyway) and less degenerates on this planet because people will start using their brains before they act. Every action has a consequence. Live with it.

Most of us really don't care about her opinions on the President or on his policies (or on anything!). But, to address her criticism of the President, has she forgotten that people have free will over what they do? Hello Scartlett...it's not a foregone conclusion that people are just going to have sex because they can't control themselves. Maybe actresses and actors don't know how to exert self control, but I really don't see what's wrong with our President urging the rest of us to do so, given the large number of abortions of convenience and babies given up for adoption in this country. I'm no prude at all, but promiscuity in this country is out of control...with shameful results.

Bush was also the first politician to publicly criticize South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds when he signed the Anti-Abortion bill into law March of this year. Bush plays the "Anti-abortion" card to win over the Christian conservative crowd, but when it really comes down to it he is in no way shape or form pro-life.

She believes that people are such animals that they can't control their own libidos and will have sex with anything that walks. That maybe true for Hollywood celebrities, but the President is the president of ALL of America, not just elitists like herself. I just love it when celebrities think they have something to tell us little plebs about how we should live our lives or conduct our affairs. I agree with Scarlet. She is not just talking about the right to abortion if necessary, but about responsible sex education. The more educated we are, the less abortions there will be. Of course a responsible sex education program is going to include an emphasize on abstinance as the only 100 percent gaurantee to avoid STDs and unwanted pregnancy, but it should also include all information about protection so people are prepared to make responsible choices about their sex lives once they reach that point in their lives - whether in marriage or not, it is a personal choice. Responsible adults should know about all forms of birth control and be tested regularly no matter how active they are. Having a recent test on record is a very good way to communicate your sexual cleanliness to a new partner. HIV can be caught by other methods besides sex.

I think that she wouldn't be saying these things if she ever had an abortion before. I don't think that people should have the right to control life like that. Its cruel and you'll never be able to live something like that down. Women get the abortion and its great for the moment to let the fear of being pregnant run out of you. Then you start to think about it and dwell on it. You'll always remember it and it'll slowly drag you into guilt, weither or not you are religious. Abortion is also an abuse to womanhood, it mocks something precious that woman are given. To be able to be a mother. I can understand having an abortion if the mothers life was endangered. Although I would still find it very hard to come to the decision to kill the baby.

Mr Bush wants the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade. He has appointed 2 pro-life justices. He will seek to pack the court with more pro-life justices. The use of condoms prevents pregnancy along with BC pills. There are other natural ways to prevent pregnancy during intercourse albeit more risky because the timing needs to be exact.
