Why should he? Isn't it time you took responsibilty for your own instruments? Sure I had help in the beginning, I was lucky, and had supportive parents, but I don't buy clothes(can't you tell?/eat out that much or go to other social events in stead, or indulge in expensive substances, other than chocolate and books of a certain sort, quite often second hand, and I only have holidays on piano courses, and I can't afford those either at the moment, French ones anyhow and all attempts at persuading them to take me on as a helper have failed so far, or a sponsored student, largely I guess, because I don't have a skill I can offer the course - debateable.
