I've heard some of the Climb's excellent material and am surprised they weren't signed a long time ago. Their songs have a great deal more meaning to them than many of their contemporaries, and their lyrics have depth far beyond their years. Lana Clarkson is just one of several people they have written about, and the only one (to my knowledge) that is dead. They should be commended for daring to tackle difficult subjects like death, alcohol addiction and substance abuse. Their music is intelligent, yet sensitive, and commercial. I certainly wouldn't rate them as the best band on the planet, but they definitely have bags of potential. Record companies should keep their ears out.

"The Climb" is a perfect name for a group trying to capitalize on the tragic accidental death of a failed movie star. If the song had been written while Lana'd still been alive, it would add some credibility to their concern, but to act all suddenly grief-stricken over the death of some busty blond that had never appeared on their radar before (except for possible masturbation material in the one trashy movie she starred in), is so cheap, so obvious. DNA evidence confirmed that Lana had sex with Spector. His DNA was on her nipple and hers was on his scrotum. You poor little innocent Lana went to his home with money on her mind. Her family's lined up to make money from her death but didn't help keep her phone on or pay her rent - but suddenly Spector - due to the fact that he's rich and has strange hair - is some Jack-the-Ripper character? Every story about Spector was exaggerated for its c**ktail-party effects. Do you think Keith Richards really ate his father's ashes? Yes, Spector had guns - for many years - decades. And no one was hurt. The women who testified against him, except one, continued seeing him to take advantage of his notorious generosity. And due to Lana's drunken, drug-induced desire to use the gun in some seduction play, Spector's losing the wealth he's amassed and will be "made an example" to prove that celebrities don't get preferential treatment by L.A. juries. But "The Climb" know, just as witnesses for the prosecution, that Lana's death would get them cash, some press and of course, the press, eager to throw more gas on Phil Spector's fire, takes part in the whole circus. Why doesn't anyone sing a song about the losers lining our streets - children whose parents are incarcerated because of the stupid drug war? Sing about saving those who aren't already dead. It won't sell records ...
