I had not seen the film until recently, I thought it would be a story about gay people. What a mistake! It is the best film I have ever seen about true love, longing, personal happiness, social boundaries... There are so many things to say about this film and the feelings it evokes! I feel like in trance since I have seen this film. Heath Ledger was a present of life to this earth!

This movie just broke my heart, everything that's been said or done is true.. I just kept on crying after the movie ended thinking how much we miss such kind of love, real love against all boundaries.. while our decade is being destoyed by hate, money, power.. Thank you Ang Lee, Thank you Jake, Thank you Heath (love and peace for you).

The genuine admiration or love between two boys is also LOVE and good. Not a sin, not a perversion. The touch of skins is a way of sensual feelings, no matter it is between men.

It's a beautiful movie in technical terms; in thematic ways it's about so much more than gay sex. It spoke to me about America and the dream in the same way as Gatsby, for example, and showed the relentless pressure to conform which seems to bedevil American society, not just about sex but about so many areas where one has to be a regular guy ( or gal. It's one of the few things I loathe about the US. As far as the love story is concerned, love comes upon us unexpectedly at times and in places where we least expect it. Wherever and however it's found, it's the greatest gift; I'm not GLBT but I don;t frrl ny desire to insult or demonise those who are.

Go in peace !!! If the subject of this movie brings you anger then you neither have a clear understanding of it or the bible.

This is one of the most moving films I have ever seen. I have seen it 7 times and still find it a powerful drama. It is so focused on Ennis and Jack that by the end I could hardly bear it. I felt the grief for weeks. Surely anyone who has loved another human being can understand the conflicts of this love. Ennis himself doesn't really understand what has happened to him. How can we explain what love is? The fact it exists is reason to celebrate.

An absolutely beautiful love story. The movie shows that whether you're gay or not, love connects us all. Beautifully played, and Jake is a hottie.

This must be the most boreing film I have ever sat through,why in the 21 century should this subject should be considered controversial, surley homosexuality is now regarded as a part of everyday life. Why would Ang Lee having employed Anne Hathaway, described by Garry Marshal as one of the most beautiful women in the world insist on frizzy blond hair and discoloured teeth, was he afraid the her natural beauty and talent would stand out from the crowd. If so then he failed as the only time this film came to life was when she appeared on screne, mind you if she had given birth to that baby I doubt if she would have been sitting up in bed with a smile on her face. What a pity he did not have the guts to follow through, he was quite happy to include a couple of female nude scenes which had nothing to do with the plot, but when it came to the main scene he upheld Holliwoods traditional two faced approach to male sex and nudity, and forgot to turn the lights on. Had they been Cow Girls I'am sure this scene would have been longer more explicit and well lit. Pity there is not an Oscar for the director the lacked the courage of his convictions, he would certainly have won that hands down.

But I know that some people can't get over the sex point, maybe because they think that sex and love are the same thing, they sometimes work togeather and when they do it is wonderful. I haven't seen the film, but I will probably watch it once it comes to OnDemand (I don't go to theaters as a matter of principle) and/or DVD. I think homosexuality is pretty gross, which is why I do not dwell on it anymore than I would anything else I find objectionable. I am an agnostic, by the way, whose brother was gay and died ten years ago of AIDS( ironically contracted through a tainted blood transfusion he received in 1981). I couldn't care less what two consenting adults do with their privacy, however, there is an agenda behond most of the "gay lobby" although I don't think this film has anything to do with that. There have been gay characters in films for a long time now, and most of the time the straights and often the bible-thumpers enjoy those films and overlook the gay characters as either a joke or an afterthought. I was once a die-hard Christian myself, but I never quite got around to feeling threatened by expressions of homosexuality (well, those "gay pride" parades replete with leather-clad diaper-wearing freaks trouble me---as if that behavior were something to be "proud" of). To the "Adam and Steve" ignoramus, you could better make your argument by pointing to evolutionary theory and the "survival of the fittest/natural selection" track; but, since you brought up the Genesis stories, you would do well to consider that they are simply myths which convey moral and basic cosmological themes with borrowed imagery and settings/events. Men have been bending one another over ever since the first caveman decided he liked a belt with his furry body-covering as well as the face-painted shrill sounds of his fat, women friends singing Judy Garland covers. Get over it. As for the foreigner who decried an "illegal war, gun violence" and the rest of his litany of progressive inanities, you'd do well to check your facts before regurgitating your freshman history professors political biases. 1) there is NOTHING illegal about this war . .2) When mentioning gun violence in the U.S.you must also account for the attempted murders, rapes, assaults, robberies, molestations etc., that were prevented by the acts of "gun violence" included in those statistical studies. For example: there was a shooting at a college campus in North Carolina a few years ago that resulted in the death of one man and injuries to a few others. The dead man was the attempted perpetrator who shot several students and faculty before other students accessed their own firearms and shot him to death before he could harm anyone else. It's listed as a "gun-related death." It's also been proven that those areas where gun-restrictions are most stringent, the crime rates increases exponentially; whereas, in those areas where guns are easily available and the various states have tough "make-my-day" or "conceal and carry laws" the crime rates go down each year. Sorry for the tangent everyone, but the ignorances here are flowing from "both sides" and deserve to be addressed.

I've watched guys kiss on SIX FEET UNDER. It isnt pleasing to me, but I can live with it. However, I hate agenda driven movies and while if these two guys were some nomad sheep herders who got a little lonely o.k. That hs been happening for centuries I imagine. I wish they had previewed the movie about being SHEEP HERDERS instead of Cowboys. Nobody wants to hear about gay cowboys unless maybe Ali G. I cant get beyond the constant effort and lobby group to make homo's more special than hetero. My loss??

I have something else to say. I totally love this movie, and I'm a Christian, so that’s not really the point. I really don't think is right to be gay, or at least it's something I would never be. But I strongly believe that I have no right to judge them, and I don't discriminate anybody, whether their gay, black, white, Chinese, or Latin or whatever, because at the end of the day we're all people and we’re all the same… we all have our own problems and lives to deal with and honestly, what the hell do we care if our neighbor is sleeping with the mailman? Anyway, as some of the above said, if you don’t like the subject don’t watch the movie. I personally think it’s great. And not for nothing got eight academy awards nomination.*-*

Oh My God! What's wrong with you people? It's just a damn movie. IT'S NOT REAL. I think Gyllenhaal and Ledger gave the performances of their lives, the cast is great, the story's touching and that's what makes it a great movie. Maybe it is sick, but it's quite good.

first of all i would just like to say that i never thought i would see a big budget gay love story in my lifetime wow how we have evolved! it looks like hollywood is ready to take on gay love stories because i was expecting far less than what was delivered,power emotion love and great actors that put on a show that the world will see and respect for years to come this film is a landmark for things to come and word has it that brad pitt has already shown interest in a few gay scripts that would usually be cast aside but with 8 oscar nominations you would have to be stupid not to realize the huge gap in the market for these kind of films so if you hate gay people then do not watch this film (your brain is too small and you will never understand) but if you are a true lover of love and are the kind of person that lives and let lives then you will be blown away buy a great great film.

First, let me tell you guys that I am an Asian and have read the Bible more than twice. American film or not, pro-american or not, pro-bible or not, this film has displayed simply but POWERFUL what love can realy achieve..that is, love is indeed knows NO boundaries!..this what makes some of the "religious" pips here freak out, they just can't understand that love really knows no boundaries. I hope that someday, God would really come down to their faces and tell em perosnally that this is true!... In the film, both the men chose to live or at least conformed to what is just acceptable to the society, that in the end, it is the love itself that endures even after all what is "acceptable" becomes mere tragedy...

To all you people that think queers are a natual thing. I hate to disappoint you but it is not. You choose to take that path because you are weak. GOD hates queers and anything to do with it. First off, the hate-speak is old. Find a new argument or better yet, re-read your Bible. Nowhere will you find support for your hatred and contempt. As for the movie, I can't wait (and actually might write) the next 20 years '1983 - 2003! Ledger and Gyllenhaal did a respectable job of portraying the angst and self-imposed fear and alienation of their characters. It most certainly captured the spirit and societal commentaries of the times. Having spent the past 23 years with the same man (beginning in 1983 where the movie ends), growing and evoving into the person I am today - father, mentor, friend, provider, and yes Christian - I certainly applaud those that have come before me. This is a movie that had to be made. It must be seen and it must incite the type of commentary we have seen. The walls of prejudice and injustice will come down one brick at a time.

PLEASE see BBM in a new theater with an excellent sound system... Friends in different cities could not understand most of what came out of Ennis' mouth. They were robbed...this is a film that is subtle as if to flirt with you and then it begins to sail away with you as a part of their experience..not an easy thing to pull off. The way this great story is told is the magic.....it slowly grabs you and makes you care about all four people and then haunts you after for days. PLEASE SEE IT AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF, NOW as to these hate sputtering fools who claim to speak for God and Jesus........well jeeeze if they had been in the theater with me when I saw BBM in okla city and they had been rude or hateful, the audience would have kicked them out...OKLAHOMA not liberal Hollywood

Why is it that those extreme religious people (Christians as well as Islamic) feel "they" (heterosexuals) are the creation of God or Allah, but the homo- or bisexuals not. For the record, I (gay) was born out of two heterosexuals, just like my brothers and sister. We are all raised protestant, and although for some of certain Christians and Islamics out there it might be hard to accept: we consider ourselves from the same creator. We all are here on this planet to forfil our destiny. Some people become special in their lives. Very special because of what they can do or what they might mean or become to others. The destiny of gay people is that they do not have the urge to multiply. Instead they can put their energy in other things: developping their creativity, entertaining female friends without harrassing them, being dear uncles and aunties to nieces and nephews, being caring sons and daughters to their eldering parents .... I am happy to be one of those chosen ones, the fortunate ones, and I am happy to be regarded as such by my extensive family and my many many friends (all over the globe) and my co-workers. I am happy with my fulfilling life and myself. It is sad to read all the hatred and prejudiced by some people, and to realize that there are many gay people out there who are probably not as happy as I am. As for Brokeback Mountain: This is a love story. A tragic love story of two men. So many negative words, whenever it appears the male charachters apparently love or care for one another. On the other too many movies are released about heroism in wars, machoism, crooks who are so smart to rob banks or other people, men seducing women of others or as much women as possible, infidelity .... and then no one seems to point towards the bible or koran.

This is just too much!! A gay cowbow love story??? What is our world coming to? I don't see anything passionate and loving about two men falling in love and having sex. I'm sorry but that is not the way God intended. The more movies we see like this the more it seems like same sex relationships are okay. They are not. Eve, a woman was created from Adam's rib. A stepping stone for the gay community. It is so rewarding to see what's been accomplished in just a few decades. I know, I was there tru all of it; in liberal Holland, no less. So now we have a Golden Globe and maybe an Oscar. And in a few years the gay issue won't be important at all anymore. So for the gay-haters out there: we are NOT going to go away, so deal with it.

I think this movie should have never been made. It is a shame that this great county of our has sunk so low. It should be rated xxx and our kids should not even be hearing about it. When is this county going to wake up and get some morals back.

Who are this 90% who find it disgusting? I love/sleep with/have relationships with other blokes (I don't really like the term gay as it suggests a cultural identity choice but have never thought it an issue to keep quiet about), have lived my whole life in London, travelled the world, have a large family, a huge group of friends - mostly straight probably - and am good friends with the people I work with. I can count the number of people who have genuinly shown disgusted hatred towards me on one hand. Maybe this 90% all live in Noneck Virginia and not in the modern world. Educate yourselves people.

I just been to see this movie and I just can't stop thinking about it, first of it, there is humour but above all there is unmasked emotion. Remember when Ledge leaves Jack for the very first time his aggression was something else, his pain was too much. The scene with Jack's parents, well it was heart breaking but it was saved when the shirt long gone lost was found. The loss of Jack also enabled Ledge to reach out to his daughter who absolutly adored her father as most of us daughters do. A great movie, it will be in my top 5

Brokeback Mountain is an amazing movie about two men in love with each other in a society which does not allow it. I can empathize with their situation (Ennis & Jack) because I also married, had children and then divorced when I could no longer live with myself. I consider myself a Christian, but I have no connection with any of these hateful Christian sects which would deny anyone the right to love. This movie leveled me awe-struck. I was amazed at the compelling emotions between two consenting adults simply falling in love. Where my headache comes in, is where among these posts I see the bigotry and ignorance from those who are manipulated by their brainwashed christian belief system. If someone for once could look past the shell of two people and actually acknowledge the passion and the deliverance of the film. It has a unique aesthetic value of its own. The beauty of the cinematography only enhances the film's setting. I agreed with the review of this movie regarding how Lee chooses not to approach the gay rights issue; however, I believe that in such an approach you can also witness how bigotry against gay people and how they choose to live, will not only hurt them, but those around them as they try to live a lie that society enforces them to live.

Not seen the film and not gay either, but i have come to realise that what people dont understand or is alien to them, they mock and preach hatred to make them feel better, because they are the ideal human being that we should all strive to be. 3 people on here who have mocked are probably unhappy in their relatshionships, single and cant get a lay, and most definately have not been in love before and with that person now. If they had they would know that love has no boundaries. The film moved me. It was an "echo" of something that happened to me 30 years ago. I then got married had kids, got the divorce..and then he got in touch again. It is not a story about "unnatural" love. It is a story about love. I - and most other males if they dare to drop their "macho" image for a moment - have had intense bonded friendships with other males. I have and do love them. I have had sex with only one of them.

love is great and if it is honest and respectful it is beautiful. i have gay friends and they are lovely people and i enjoy their company as they are most times more honest than straight people. but i do not believe that it is right for two people of the same sex to have a sexualy relationship so i won't go watch the movie. please don't bash people who believe in god and jesus we have a right to our belief. and yes i do believe america has lost its values especially the actors and actresses who committe adaultery and are imoral in their lives they have no values and are giving the young people the wrong values and morals as they are selfcentred and arrogant not all of them there are a few good ones left. if you object to a movie or a actor don't pay to watch their movie that is the best way to act

This movie was amazing in that it had people discussing it for hours after seeing it. A great story line, with incredible performances, by both Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal! It went a lot deeper than just being about two men being in love. Unfortunately there are many ignorant people out there who, without even seeing the film, have to express their coments, filled with hatred....Oh well, it's their loss.....

its because of people like the two above that this world will never be free of prejustice and hate. any film that follows a love story in the sincerest way that this film did is an asset to everyone invovled. it is refreshing to see that a gay relationship can be played in this way. the homophobic comments left previously on this site are in direct conection with the main theme of the film. homophobes should be proud that tehy fell into its trap, where everyone else should be proud that we live in a time that a film like this can be shown with taste.

Ok, a love story? Humpcrack Mounting... with 2 charactors named Jack-off and Annis! Is the touching part when one of them pulls it out and has to wipe the human waste off of his unit? Brokeback Mountain...hmmm, why would 2 men doing unnatural acts attract so much venom? Maybe it's because it is an unnatural act. Why is it that when someone states their displeasure and back up their opinion with the Bible, there is so much venom shot at them? Hmmmm...is it because deep within one's self there is a spot and a split second glimmer that actually says that they could be right? I believe that this is just one more example of Hollywood manipulating society to accept an even further degredation of our morals and limits. Look back in history to societies that have fallen to this point of view...Sodom and Gomorrah was an actual city that disappeared...Babylon, the Mayan culture, the fall of Rome, Pompeii, etc...look, see, these types of acts were an intrical part of their society...just leave the bible warnings out....it is the sign of a society that has crossed all lines and has let in ALL influences, and begins to disintegrate from the interior out. I believe the USA is in the grips of this...it is rotting from the inside out...no social limits. Don't spit venom at people with a different point of view, they are entitled to disagree or agree. What worries me is the fall of a great country that began on such good principles. The way down is a slippery slope.

The Al-Qieda believe that Westerners are immoral and will perish with exactly the same confidence and hatred as you believe homosexuals will. But I'm wasting my breath.

What two consenting adults choose to do is thwir business. As long as they're not doing it to you, why are you bothered. There's no proof that God exists. People throughout history have believed many various Gods and Godesses, What makes you so sure YOURS in the true God? You have as much chance as they have of being correct. Amazing in this day some people can write such hate for a film of two men sharing a love for each other, with wars all over the World appreciation of art reflecting that beleive it or not we live in a World with gay men and woman have always and will always maybe the most who preach the bible maybe misunderstand that accept all, love all and forgive all is a foreign concept, hate has no place in this World for anyone and in a time where we should realise through hate and misunderstanding of the faith we have created this narrow minded nonsense, so if its two men,two donkeys, two fish loving each other thats a better premise to approach then anything I can think of in these terrorist times flooding the World, its a film of art,beauty and a celebration of life and love no matter what the source its reassurring to see films like this are produced making us realise there are things in life worth appreciating, worth holding on too even if everyday wanker comments from hate fuelled arseholes who populate this beautiful planet live amongst us but we do something that seems to escape you and thats forgive and appreciate you who you are!!!!!

First of all, to the hypocritical bible beaters out there, where does it say in the bible to harbor contempt for those who sin in the eyes of the Lord? It seems to me that the anger and disdain that all these folks have for this piece of art is a product of coming from an ignorant, intolerant and prejudicial upbringing. I have not yet seen the film. I am eager to see these wonderful actors portray a love story without a social agenda. To anyone who disagrees, I suggest you say a prayer and save the hate.

Love does not understand our mortal boundaries or social pressures, it is a pure and untainted force. Ennis and Jack share a bond that many people only dream about. OK... let me get this straight. Two guys discover what its like to bypass their concience and engage in acts of sodomy. Do they show the damage done to the anal tissue? Do they tell us about the damage done to the immune system when sperm is enjected into the lower digestive cannal? Do they drink each others piss?
