I believe different people take different paths in their search for truth. Tom seems to have chosen Scientology. Everyone looks at life from their own point of view. So, guess what, we have millions of different points of view. My point of view about pharmaceuticals is that they have made a huge difference in the health of individuals all over the world. Yes there are some things that could be changed about the way pharmaceutical companies behave but despite themselves, I believe that the good far outweighs the bad. So my view point is..I dislike medicine probably as much as Tom Cruise does but the main thing that keeps me alive, healthy and whole is my medication. Pulling yourself up by the bootstraps does not work with these illnesses. I am not angry with Tom Cruise because of his comments. I believe in time he will come to understand that when discussing an illness it is not so black and white. What is interesting is when you develop your mind alongside of taking a necessary medication for any illness..I believe the chances of healing grows exponentialy. Both work together not apart.

I really don't keep up with the entertainment news but I had heard of Tom jumping up and down off the couch on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Why does this bother people. I think Tom is the Best. Look at the parts he plays, it shows he is a very able and positive guy. Negitive people like to put down anything positive to make it alright to be Negitive. You've heard the old saying Misery loves company? Does Good News Sell? Why? Look at the rampant Apathy in society. It communicates, it's a negitive emotion. Shows you how low society has sunken. Tom is a Scientologist and knows that there is a tech to raise the tone level of society on an individual basis. Pick the subject, you can be at the top of the tone scale about it or at the bottom of the tone scale about it. If you have a good attitude your probably pretty high toned, if you have a negitive or bad attitude, your probably pretty low toned and life won't treat you very good. Well, I for one still adore Tom Cruise and enjoy and have enjoyed and continue to enjoy every film that he has been involved with since the beginning of his career. The public is fickle and flawed in their appraisal of any public figure, masses loved Hitler, crucified Jesus, and made Mark Twain become a near hermit as he waited for the end of his life when Haley's Comet would return. Cruise must read voraciously and he does give much to many charities, but unlike Angelina and Pitt, Tom Cruise does not seek goody goody fame for these gifts. Paul Newman and many others know of Tom's efforts for altruism and helping children with learning and reading disabilities. Cruise is such a fine actor that he effortlessly makes others in his films look good - he props them up as it were and is. Dustin Hoffman in "Rainman" needed Cruise in those scenes, no one can deny that unarguable truth. Even in his turn as that famous vampire, Anne Rice had to eat her critical words and agree that he (Cruise) became Lestat (possibly misspelled)! Paul Newman said that Cruise was nothing like his megalomaniac hustler in "The Color of Money," that Cruise was truly "acting" to be that c**ky,and Jack Nicholson praised Cruise's passion for their court room scenes in "A Few Good Men." I personally agree with much that Cruise says especially with regard to the novel BRAVE NEW WORLD by Aldous Huxley. Cruise referred to this novel of warning during that now famous Matt Lauer interview and Cruise's comments were right-on. Huxley's novel warns that in the future world there will be an easy and readily available "cure" for every imagined ill. No one will be allowed to feel bad. In fact, no one will be allowed to "feel" anything! There will be drugs for every imagined problem to prevent us from feeling. Huxley is exactly correct because from Elvis to Anna Nicole, famous and unfamous and infamous people are daily over-drugging. Can't Sleep? There's a drug. Over-active child? There's a drug. As a former teacher, I can tell you that statement is right on and correct! Matt Lauer - to me - was the total "jerk" during that interview and I cannot stand him and could not even before he tried to entrap Cruise on the air. Tom is willing and eager to talk to anyone. He does often say too much, but he is charming and genuine and not conniving as Lauer is! Tom accused Lauer of being glib, but he should have used the word "flippant!" or cynical or overly fake and acting superior. Lauer is far more the total megalomaniac than Tom could ever be. Tom has a right to jump for joy at finding love! He was miserable after the divorce with Nicole and obviously lonely. It is the press and their disgusting hatred of a good guy that has innundated us with negativity regarding every issue involving Tom since his split from Nicole. Look! Tom had the gentlemanly grace to never smear or seek to smear Nicole in any way - he just shut up totally! How awesome! While most in Hollywood never shut up - Tom did; but what did he reap for this quiet gentlemanliness? Since the punk press could not fathom his silence, they sought to strike out at him and to refuse to let up. They place druggies from countless rehab visits (Robert D. Jr.) on pedestals and forgive them with limitless positive press, while Cruise's only crime is his passion for life. I, for one, am still a total fan of this good guy and it just makes me loathe the press and their manipulative smears of whomever they choose to smear! They do shape our opinions - or try to - and that was even a warning from BRAVE NEW WORLD!We need to worry about how much we absorb from those tacky covers on those magazines! Britta I understand your position, however, I was simply responding to Unfame's comments about Hollywood Corp. and Movie Stars to be exact, not individuals who are the stars in their own lives, trying to earn a living.

Sorry stormy, but I´ve an other position. A star is a person which is fighting day by day for a job, so that his/her children are not hungry. A star ... which helped other people: a fireworker or a mum from the SOS children town. Stars are person which are not looking for the money before they doing something. It´s a appointment. For all the other is it a job somtimes with alot money. All the feelings that they have standing outside their life.

For Unfame Actors have a choice of acting on stage for the love of their art or making the big bucks in a Hollywood Corp. action flick - such as Tom Cruise, $20,000,000. per movie. This is not acting, it's sitting around on a movie set for 15 hours per day waiting to do a 15 minute scene. He does his own stunts because it's fun, breaks up the boredom of sitting around all day, instead of acting, which a true actor would choose to do. Tom Cruise is a Movie Star, not an Actor. Big difference. Should actors so choose, they can act on Stage for the sake of Art alone, seeing as you believe they are being abused by Hollywood Corp. They need not choose to act on film to collect the big bucks. They have a choice. Art films, low budget, small paycheck, or huge blockbuster films, huge paycheck! No one is forcing them to choose the latter. It's their own greed. If they are truly in it for the love of acting for the sake of their Art, they may choose to forego the big paycheck by acting on stage or in art films. As for the public supposedly loosing their freedom through the big Hollywood Corp. as you say, the public also has a choice to spend their hard earned dollars on films they wish to view. If they choose not to attend the blockbuster action films, them Hollywood Corp. would be forced to STOP making them. If the public choose to spend their money viewing art films or stage performances, then the Arts would need to move in that direction in order to accomodate the taste of the greater public. We do have a choice as do the actors. If they are acting for the sake of their Art as opposed to the almighty dollar, they could choose the stage or low budget films bypassing Hollywood Corp. altogether. Should they go the other way and prefer the limelight and the money which involves sitting around for hours on set waiting to do a scene, don't tell me that they are great Artists being exploited by Hollywood. They have the choice to Act or be a Movie Star. Furthermore, when these individuals were unknown, they would love to see their name in the papers and have their picture taken repeatedly, but once they become famous, they want their privacy! Seems that by choosing to be a Movie Star as opposed to a lowly Actor suffering for their art, they have foregone their right to privacy by claiming their right to a $20,000,000. per movie paycheck! After being diagnosed with Major Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder back in 1993 after my divorce, once I started medication together with seeing a therapist, I learned about my chemical imbalance, as well as the fact that my PTSD issues also drive my depression. I do exercise, eat well, and I also have a chemical imbalance. Plain and simple. Mr. Cruise is NOT a psychiatrist, and for him to make a blanket statement that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance is hogwash. If it weren't for antidepression medication and psychotherapy, I would have committed suicide years ago. I am convinced of that. I have tried weaning myself off of the medication I am currently on, however, with the anxiety disorder and PTSD issues I have, there is NO WAY I could ever be off of them. I have tried that. I have explored my issues in therapy and discovered the root causes for things. I am a better person for that. However, the fact that I am on antidepressant medication does not make me less of a person, nor does it interfere with my ability to make clear and informed decisions. I always explore all options when making decisions. My decision to be on antidepressant medication and in therapy is a clear, well thought out and well researched one. There are always extremes in everything, and I agree with Mr. Cruise's assessment that there are physicians out there who overmedicate and prescribe unnecessary medications.
