Yes I watched the documentary last night and was absolutely moved beyond description. I just couldn't believe someone in the public eye could be so generous and open about such a personal subject. I am a mental health sufferer as well and also happen to be a great fan of Stephen Fry from years back: I'm afraid I'm one of those awful people who can quote at length speeches and lines from various TV and radio shows - in my case Stephen Fry's shows, having loved and listened to them ad nauseam over the years. I thought I already admired him greatly - but then I saw this programme and I'm just astonished at how wonderfully moving and inspirational it was. Stephen - thank you so much. You are incredible. just wanted to congratulated Stephen on the BBC2 documentary on Tues about his mental health issues. i too suffer with MH problems and while not a manic depressive i can so associate with the depressive side of his illness. i hope more celebs have the courage to help raise public awareness to the issues around MH and show that it is poss to have a problem but continue to lead a full life. Stephen you are an inspiration to many with MH probs. i hope you keep well, safe and strong and continue to work to shed light on this important subject. many thanks

The Ode of Stephen Fry - written 17/01/06 - Transcribed same © - Humour At Christmas as a welcome gift My daughter-in-law, a woman of taste And words and knowledge and sensible thrift And being aware that from time to time I indulge myself in self-wrought rhyme Gave me a book by Stephen Fry “The Ode less Travelled” “A copy” do I hear you cry “of that other Road ?” Unravelled, As I perused its pages; it expounded All the roots of rhyme and verse. Just look at the Contents, picked by chance, “Iambic pentameters” a well-known dance “End-stopping, Enjambement and Caesura” What intellectual joy could be the purer To codify and list and write in black On virgin paper white ? “Trochaic, Pyrhhic, Dactyl, Molossus and Tribrach” What more erudition could we askch? “Quaternary feet” I didn’t know that Quadripeds could scan: though my old cat Was more than a friend; if only I’d known That man could write to him, and he to me… What feline thoughts would from his paws Have given me pause? The Amphibrach, Amphimacer, quatrain, Sapphic Ode Pindaric, The Rubai, Ottava Rima, Horatian and Rondeau Rondel, Roundel, Rondelet, Roundelay, Triolet and Kyrielle. The Clerihew, the limerick, haiku, senryu, tanka, ghazal Luc, bat, tanaga, Shakespearian sonnets and those Of brave Petrarch. Oh, Mr Fry, you make my mind to reel: My poetry’s quite simple, word on word with rhythm in my voice I write, I know not the ordeal to analyse or quantify I simply write as I simply feel.
