Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy Biography
Hailing from Illinois, Chicago, Fall Out Boy are comprised of 4 members, Pete Wentz (bass guitar, backing vocals, lyricist), Patrick Stump (vocals, guitar, lead writer), Joe Trohman (guitar, backing vocals), and Andy Hurley (drums).
Joe met Patrick in a bookshop when he overheard Stump talking about the band Neurosis who the pair have a shared passion for. After chatting, Joe talked Patrick into auditioning to play drums for the (yet unnamed) band. Patrick got offered the position but as soon as his voice was discovered, the trio decided Patrick would be best suited as lead vocalist.
The band found their name when they were lacking in inspiration, they asked at one of their early gigs for suggestions from the crowd, it's believed that someone shouted out 'Fall Out Boy' in reference to a character in The Simpsons.
In 2002 the band first released a record on the Uprising Records. It was a split EP with Project Rocket. Uprising also released of another record titled, 'Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend'. Andy Hurley was the final member to join the band. 2003 was also the year they parted ways with Uprising and found a new home at the rapidly growing and successful Fueled by Ramen, the deal was a co-op deal with Island Records, the labels released their first full length player, 'Take This to Your Grave'. Sean O'Keefe produced the first record at Butch Vig's Smart Studios.
In 2005 Pete Wentz attempted to commit suicide and overdosed on sedatives. The band worked through their problems and Fall Out Boy released their first album proper 'From Under the Cork Tree.' The album found its name from Pete Wentz's favourite childhood book 'The Story of Ferdinand' by Munro Leaf. The album sold over 68,000 copies in it's first week, it has since sold over 2.5 million copies and boosted the record sales of 'Take This To Your Grave' to gold status. The most popular single was 'Sugar We're Going Down'. Other singles included, Dance Dance, A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More 'Touch Me'.
Sticking with Island and Fueled By Ramen, 'Infinity on High' was released in 2006, Singles include the 'This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race' 'The Take Over, the Breaks Over' 'Thnks fr th Mmrs'
In the past Fall Out Boy have collaborated with Kanye West (produced and featured on This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race) and Timbaland (they are featured on his album Timbaland Presents Shock Value). Fall Out Boy have toured with label mates, The All-American Rejects, Cute Is What We Aim For, Gym Class Heroes, The Hush Sound, Motion City Soundtrack, Panic At The Disco and Plain White T's.
Patrick Stump has also featured on some other friends records including Gym Class Heroes' Cupid's Chokehold', Motion City Soundtrack's single, 'Everything is Alright'
