Brian Buckley
Brian Buckley Biography
Brian Buckley was born in Southern California on the outskirts of Los Angeles. His father, a piano teacher and grandparent’s famous performers in the forties, he followed quickly in their footsteps. Picking up the guitar at age 10, he began writing original tunes at seventeen in the courtyard of his parent’s home in Sacramento. Influenced by everyone from Van Morrison to Jimi Hendrix, Buckley eventually moved to the San Fernando Valley in 2002, playing monthly at Karma Coffee House. His rhythmic acoustic jamming, hope-filled lyrics and emotional storytelling drew crowds of people asking how and where they could get a CD.
Shortly thereafter Brian was introduced to Arthur Barrow, a producer with a studio in Mar Vista near Venice. Arthur’s amazing credits include playing bass for Frank Zappa and producing the likes of Diana Ross, Billy Idol, and Robbie Krieger.
Later that year Buckley tragically lost a dear friend to suicide which had a profound effect on his writing. He immediately began recording an album to deal with the aftermath. Close friend and actor Jared Padalecki helped produce the album “For Her” which acquainted him with musicians such as percussionist and band member Erik Lekrone and drummer legend Vinnie Colaiuta (who along with Barrow’s bluesy bass lines is the heartbeat and blanket to Buckley’s intimate vocals).
Through a friend, Brian met Mike McGraw, also on the album, a lead guitarist with incomparable talent and soon the two became close friends. They quickly decided to take the sound to more live settings such as Los Angeles’ historical clubs like The Mint, The Joint, and The Viper Room. Recruiting long time friend Dan Bodeman on bass was a perfect fit and Barrow rounded out the sound by introducing them to Albert Estiamba, Jr., a drummer whose experience and ear lead them to another dimension. Experimenting with various genres such as blues, jazz, jam band funk, rock and folk and catching the eyes of everyone from sponsors, labels and digital distributors, we can only hope this music (built solely on emotion) will be heard by the world’s ears.
