The stars of New Order dedicated their set at Spain's Benicassim music festival to their late JOY DIVISION bandmate Ian Curtis on what would have been the singer's 56th birthday.
The band - formed from the remaining members of Joy Division after Curtis' death in 1980 - headlined the event on Sunday night (15Jul12) and they marked the special date by honouring their late friend.
They played a number of Joy Division songs during the set, including Love Will Tear Us Apart and Isolation, and singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner urged fans to remember Curtis' birthday, instead of the tragic day of his death.
He said, "Nobody remembers the date he was born, everybody remembers the day he died. I think that is very sad to celebrate the day Ian died. It's so much better to celebrate the day he was born!"
Curtis hanged himself on 18 May, 1980.
