'13 Reasons Why' Executive Producer Teases Season 2

Netflix

Earlier this year, the first season of Netflix original series '13 Reasons Why' debuted on the streaming service, adapting the Jay Asher young adult novel of the same name. Telling the story of a young Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) - who decides to take her own life but record a series of cassette tapes explaining her reasons for doing so before killing herself - the show quickly became the subject of much criticism for its stark and explicit portrayal of rape and self-harm.

Despite the critics, there were those that said scenes such as those and the overall storyline presented in '13 Reasons Why' was extremely important, especially for the younger viewers who may be dealing with traumas in their own lives. Whatever the case may be, Netflix saw the success of the show as a reason to renew it for a second season, which we expect will debut at some point next year.

Netflix Reveals Its Most Addictive Shows In New Survey

Netflix

Netflix has produced evidence that ‘Breaking Bad’ is the most addictive TV series on its roster, determining that it takes viewers just two episodes in order to become hooked.

The streaming giant has analysed data from 16 countries to gain some insight into the modern phenomenon of binge-watching TV boxsets – let’s face it, we’ve all done it, even if we’re not proud of it – and has tried to discover the exact point at which a viewer becomes 70% likely to finish the entire first season of several hit shows.

AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’, hailed by some as the greatest TV series ever, takes only two episodes for the average viewer to become addicted – compared to four episodes for its spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’. A number of other shows, such as ‘Scandal’, ‘The Killing’ and ‘Bates Motel’ also took just two episodes, it must be noted, but these are (we’re guessing) likely to have smaller viewerships.

Kevin Spacey Netflix

Attention: there’s a new trailer out for House of Cards Season 3. As such, we must observe and discuss. The clip is a rather stress-inducing piece of promo, with an industrial musical theme vaguely reminiscent of early Nine Inch Nails playing in the background as the drama unfolds.

Despite Emmy Snub, The Future Is Bright For Netflix (Starting With Gervais Ad)

Ricky Gervais Kevin Spacey Netflix

Netflix probably didn't have any deserved winners of major Emmy awards on Monday night (August 25, 2014). 'House of Cards' - which is fast becoming pure, unadulterated fun more than anything else - was never going to beat 'Breaking Bad' in the outstanding drama category and although 'Modern Family' was the surprise winner of best comedy, 'Orange is the New Black' still had to beat the far superior 'Veep'. Still, it must have felt like two steps back for executives at the streaming service, which has poured cash into quality original content in recent years.

Nevertheless, the future is bright for Netflix and a glossy new ad featuring Ricky Gervais confirms just how far the service has grown to effectively become ingrained in modern culture. The clip opens with Gervais lounging around in front of the television, musing, "You know when you're watching your favorite Netflix show and after five straight episodes, you want to be in it?"

Netflix are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with

A live action series is to begin based upon the heroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, culminating in a mini-series The Defenders, which probably means we'll have a couple of inter-twining story-lines between shows. The four heroes are all to be based in the gritty setting of Hell's Kitchen, New York, and Netflix have initially signed on for at least four, 13 episode series over “multiple years,” beginning in 2015. The introduction of the heroes will then lead to the spin-off mini-series, The Defenders, which according to Netflix/Disney “reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.”
