Nelly Furtado knew she was going to be star from the age of four.

The 'Parking Lot' singer admits while she had a tough upbringing there was never any doubt in her mind that she was going to make it in the music industry and become a big name.

She said: ''I always saw it. I first performed when I was four. I really had a vision of performing in front of hundreds of people when I was that young. I always knew it would happen. I saw myself sitting at the Grammies ... I saw myself opening for U2 or whatever. It was a sure thing for me. I was lucky that way.''

However, while she always wanted to become a big music star and was able to make her dream come true Nelly still considers herself to be a very down-to-earth person.

The 33-year-old pop star has a nine-year-old daughter Nevin - her child with former partner Jasper Gahunia - and she realises that family and happiness are the most important things in life.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''True success is health and balance in one's life and making time for hobbies and family. It's the difference between seeing success as a destination and as a Journey. The idea that dreams come true and everything will be perfect? It doesn't work that way.''
