Neil Patrick Harris, the American actor and star of 'How I Met Your Mother', will host this year's Tony Awards at the Beacon Theatre on June 12th 2011, reports the Associated Press. Neil Patrick Harris will take over from last year's host, the 'Will & Grace' star Sean Hayes.
After being announced at this year's host, Patrick Harris joked, "I'm honored and stoked to have been asked to host the 2011 Tony Awards. It should be a great show - we've got a fantastic mix of live performances, a few secret surprises, and since they're closed for retooling, we're using all the rigging equipment from Spider-Man. What could possibly go wrong?" Julie Taymor's Broadway musical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' has been rocked by a number of injuries to cast and crew, with one actor being rushed to hospital after after a fall. Tony Awards producers Ricky Kirchner and Glenn Weiss said, "We're thrilled to have Neil back as our host. And we're even happier he fits in the Spider-Man rigging". Patrick Harris last featured on Broadway just a couple of weeks ago, playing 'Bobby' in an NY Philharmonic presentation of 'Company'.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone's controversial musical 'The Book of Mormon' dominates this year's Tony Award nominations with nods in 14 categories. 'The Scottsboro Boys' received 12 nominations while the British play 'Jerusalem' received 6.
