The Titanic beauty was determined not to let her impending motherhood disrupt filming on the first big screen adaptation of Veronica Roth's bestselling novel, but Burger refused to allow her to continue after watching nervously as she tumbled during early shoots.
Author Roth tells People.com, "It's pretty funny because she was pregnant when we were shooting, but she wanted to do her own stunt falls. She did a couple. She's you know, very careful about it, and then finally Neil Burger was like, 'Ok, I'm too nervous - you can't do this anymore.'"
Burger adds, "(Winslet) was still wanting to do it (fight scenes) with as much action. She's a committed actress and she's a committed mother, too. But she is just completely there, and you kind of just have to stop her."
But the filmmaker admits he was really impressed by the actress' dedication to the movie: "She really is, from my mind, the best actress of her generation, and... there's a reason. She's a pro. She's completely present."
Winslet gave birth to her third child, son Bear, in December (13). The boy is her first with husband Ned Rocknroll.
