With the San Francisco Giants' Pablo Sandoval single-handedly scoring three runs against the Detroit Tigers in the first three innings and with the Giants extending their lead by three more runs through the fifth inning, many viewers of Wednesday night's opening game of the World Series left early. Opening with 12.51 viewers in the first half hour, the telecast counted just 8.97 million in the final half hour. Nevertheless it ranked No. 1 for the night among adults 18-49 and total adults. Moreover, its average of 11.77 million viewers was down 17 percent from Game 1 of last year's Series between Texas and St. Louis. Meanwhile, NBC -- so potent now on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays -- looked again on Wednesday like its last-place self of last season with dismal ratings for Animal Practice and Guys with Kids, which attracted 3.80 million viewers and 3.83 million respectively in the 8:00 p.m. hour.
