Actor Nathan Lane is recovering after sustaining injuries during a matinee performance of stage production THE FROGS in New York.

The 48-year-old actor, who won acclaim alongside Matthew Broderick for his efforts in Broadway hit The Producers, was performing on 1 September (04) when he suffered what his representative calls "big gashes" in his legs during a quick exit through a trap door.

An understudy quickly stepped in to take over for the rest of the performance and the evening show.

Lane's representative says the actor is currently "doing fine".
