THE PRODUCERS star Nathan Lane will return to Broadway, New York to recreate one of British actor Alan Bates' greatest stage and screen roles. The funnyman will play it straight as the lead in SIMON GRAY's dark comedy BUTLEY - about a professor who loses his wife and lover on the same day. The play will begin previews at the Booth Theatre in October (06). It isn't the first time the song-and-dance man has played Butley - a role Bates made his own in the early 1970s - Lane starred in a critically acclaimed production of the Gray play in New York in 2003.
