McElhone, who acted alongside George Clooney in SOLARIS, agreed to play a German woman in her latest film despite not speaking a word of the language, nor knowing when to emphasise sounds.
She says, "I was playing a German and I don't speak the language, so I learnt it in chunks phonetically.
"They kept reassuring me, but what about when German audiences get to see it?
