Natalie Portman is "interested" in playing an edgy Snow White.

The 'Black Swan' actress is reportedly eyeing up the lead role in 'Brothers Grimm: Snow White', producer Brett Ratner's reimagining of the classic fairytale, Pajiba reports.

No contract has yet been signed by Portman but Melisa Wallack has already started working on The Script for the 3-D movie on behalf of Relativity Media.

'Amelie' director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, is being lined up to direct the 29-year-old Oscar-nominated actress in the flick.

However Brett has revealed that this film will be completely different to the Disney version with reports suggesting Natalie's Snow White will be a "s**t".

He said: "This is not your grandfather's Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney's film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we're going to do."

Producer Ryan Kavanaugh added: "This is a project we've aggressively pursued and believe in. We love Melisa Wallack's script and her fresh take on the classic story we all grew up on. This film will bring together fans of the original fairy tale and draw new audiences who enjoy adventure films."
