Natalie Portman's body double for the hit ballet movie 'Black Swan' insists that she appears in the majority of the movie's dance scenes and not the OSCAR winning actress.
Natalie Portman's body double scandal rumbled on this week after the dancer SARAH LANE claimed her work in 'Black Swan' has been downplayed in an attempt to boost Portman's OSCAR chances, reports the UK's Metro newspaper.
Portman walked away with the ACADEMY AWARD for 'Best Actress' in February after receiving critical acclaim for her performance as a New York ballerina, but her professional body double says the actress appeared in only 5 per cent of the movie's dance scenes. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Magazine, Lane said, "On the full body shots, I would say five per cent are Natalie. All the other shots are me. They wanted to create this idea in people's minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half or the movie, basically because of the Oscar". Portman's husband, the choreographer BENJAMIN MILLEPIED immediately denied the claims, saying, "Honestly, 85 per cent of that movie is Natalie".
The Hollywood studio behind 'Black Swan' also issued a swift statement defending Natalie Portman's involvement in the dance sequences, saying, "We were fortunate to have Sarah there to cover the more complicated dance sequences and we have nothing but praise for the hard work she did. However, Natalie herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film".
