Australian actress/singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte was left terrified following the birth of her son as he was diagnosed with an acute respiratory condition and rushed to an intensive care ward.
The X Factor Australia judge gave birth to a baby boy named Hendrix on 21 May (13) following an emergency Caesarean section at a hospital in Melbourne two weeks before her son's due date.
Bassingthwaighte has now revealed her son was born with a respiratory condition known as wet lung and was admitted straight to a critical care unit. The star and her husband, her former Rogue Traders bandmate Cameron MCGlinchey, were not allowed to touch their little boy for 24 hours as doctors worked to steady his breathing, and Bassingthwaighte admits she was relieved when little Hendrix was finally given the all-clear.
She tells Australia's New Idea magazine, "I couldn't feed him, or have any of those special moments you long for, but somehow I knew it was going to be Ok. Something like that definitely makes you reassess what's important and there have been many tears since. We are just happy he is healthy and happy."
The former Neighbours star, who is already mother to a two-year-old daughter called Harper, insists she still plans to have more children despite the scare. She adds, "Oh my God, as soon as Hendrix came I said: 'I want to do this again and again'. It's not just my decision, but I could do it more and more."
