American jazz musician Narvin Kimball died in New Orleans, Louisiana, yesterday (17MAR06). He was 97. The prolific Preservation Hall Jazz Band founder passed away in his daughters' home, where he and his wife LILLIAN had been staying since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the area in August (05). Kimball was celebrated for his vocal style and banjo playing. Friend BEN JAFFE says, "He was really our last connection to a bygone time in the history of New Orleans." Kimball is survived by his wife, two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
