New Flesh Universally Dirty Album

UK outfit New Flesh have been in the hip hop game for a long time. They're back with 'Universally Dirty' a true reflection of UK urban music. New production sounds and techniques have been popularised recently through the 'grime' scene. This crew are incorporated new urban street sounds with there own blend of established hip hop. It creates an engrossing album that many can learn from.

It took me quite a few listens to really absorb this album. That's because it's contemporary, deep and varied. They're not sticking to one formula. 'Universally Dirty' experiments with different sounds and influences from hip hop to dancehall, socca to grime all with a prominent UK street flavour. Each track has its own character like 'Trouble' a reagge dub style vibe featuring talented LSK. Or the dirty 'Home Movie' that has excellent drum production and a serious garage vibe. 'Whenever We Go' is totally unique and has cross over potential. It's a real testament to Part 2 whose production is very original, heavy and infectious. The rapping by Juice Aleem and Toastie Tailor is strong, delivered well and is definitely a statement on how far UK mcing has come.

Overall it's a standout album that is showcasing the full spectrum of urban influences that are synergised to create something new. They're competent artists who are pushing things forward. It's a credit to the UK to produce something so fresh, innovative and positive. 'Universally Dirty' is a good album for DJ's, for people wanting to learn something about this scene and for people who respect good music in general. Class!
