Tuesday night down at the Hi-Fi is a hive of activity and many new emerging bands that are diverse and play good music are getting a chance to show their worth. Tonight was a good line up consisting of Solo, Deckshufflers, Freeform Five and Mylo. Local bands Solo and Deckshufflers certainly brought a crowd down. Solo playing psychedelic rock and Deckshufflers playing progressive trip hop with soulful vocals created a great atmosphere for Freeform Five to show Leeds what it’s made of.

Freeform Five looked good up on stage. They had a diverse look about them with a kind of rootsy alternative style. They were keen to get the good people of Leeds dancing. Their album translated well live. Their blend of electro-dance punk was definitely funky and they came across

with lots of energy. They were slightly unlucky tonight as one of the male vocalists didn’t come through too well in the mix which seemed to dampen their spirits and didn’t give them the cutting edge I think other audiences might have experienced. By my reckoning they didn’t give it their best performance and could have done better, maybe this was due to the sound problems they were having. However, to me, Freeform Five seem to be a cool progressive band with a good live sound and an interesting slant on electro-dance.
