Last night's (4JUN05) Mtv Movie Awards paid tribute to the year's best high school movies, handing out awards to film hits Mean Girls, The Notebook and Napoleon Dynamite.

There was even an honour for the cast of 1980 teen hit The Breakfast Club who were reunited by organisers and serenaded onstage at Hollywood's Shrine Auditorium.

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO was named Best Male, and Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan Best Female.

Actress Rachel McAdams was the biggest individual winner, taking three prizes - Best Breakthrough Female Performance for Mean Girls, Best Kiss for The Notebook and a third along with the entire cast of Mean Girls.

But she had to share the limelight with Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder, who received two awards: Breakthrough Male Performance and Best Musical Performance for the film, which won Best Film.

The ceremony also paid host to the hottest Hollywood romance of the moment, with Katie Holmes handing out a Lifetime Achievement award to her new beau Tom Cruise.

Cruise told the crowd, "If I've been able to entertain you at all, okay? Then, I thank you for allowing me to do so."

Elsewhere, child star Dakota Fanning won Best Frightened Performance for Hide and Seek and DUSTIN HOFFMAN scooped the Comedic Performance for MEET THE FOCKERS.
