Director : Sidney Lumet
Producer : Rob Cohen
Screenwriter : Joel Schumacher
Starring : Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Mabel King, Theresa Merritt, Thelma Carpenter
This Broadway mainstay is horrifying -- nightmare-inducing, really. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Nipsey Russell make for a triple threat of overacting and bad costumes in this Harlem-set bastardization of The Wizard of Oz. Ted Ross, as the cowardly lion, is the only one to escape relatively unscathed. There's one song here worth remembering (the "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" update "Ease on Down the Road"), the rest is an acid trip of bad dancing, garish sets, and a Joel Schumacher-scripted mess that runs 135 agonizing minutes. Thank God for the irreverent Richard Pryor as the titular Wiz.

| The person who wrote this review is OBVIOUSLY a tabloid-junkie bigoted MJ hater, w/ a major chip on his shoulder because some1 did something horrible to him as a child. It's also quite clear that he ONLY watched this AFTER Michael's tragic 2009 death, because if he had had seen it beforehand he would've appreciated the wonder of it. Is it the perfect movie...? No. But it is enjoyable to watch because Michael makes it all worthwhile. Back when it was 1st released it was Michael who continually praised by reviewers & it was Michael every1 came to see. (I remember... I was in the audience as a 10 year old.) To the reviewer who was to much of a punk bitch to add his own name, I say get the f*** over it. Michael did nothing to you or to any1. Now just do us all a favor, & stfu, as you ease on down the road. | ||
