Never willing to leave a classic alone, Hollywood finally dug up Chinatown and
sequelized it with The Two Jakes, and they even let Jack Nicholson take the
director's chair.
The movie doesn't stink, but its retreading of the Chinatown story doesn't add
a hell of a lot to the minor mythos that film developed. Oddly enough, it's
Madeleine Stowe that steals the show (as the Faye Dunaway society vamp) and
reminds us why she used to be such a big star. Madeleine, what happened to you?
