The Secret - Comments and Message Board

I get the impression that, as a remake of a Japanese film initiated by Luc Besson that took five years to complete, it was supposed to have been a bigger film but financiers dropped out, so they scaled it down to a Lifetime style intended-for-cable tearjerker.

I just saw this on Lifetime, and I could have sworn it was made expressly for the network. On learning that this was a remake of a Japanese film, that it was initiated by Luc Besson, and that it took five years to complete, I wondered if it had not originally been intended as a bigger, more expensive production, then over the development period(perhaps funding was withdrawn) got whittled down to a low-budget intended-for-cable thing. I can imagine somebody saying "Lets add the Mother finding out daughter's secrets plot so Lifetime'll buy It"! An actor said that he was cast as the daughter's boyfriend, but his part was cut for budgetary reasons.Maybe that wasn't all that they cut.
