Sandra Bernhard, where did she go?
If this question has been troubling you, rest easy: She's Still Here, Damn It!
If you might be wondering where her career went, after a detour into D-grade
films like Wrongfully Accused, Sandra has finally made it back to stand-up.
And she's really pregnant. And she's got on a see-through nightie, all of
which serves to entertain us when the jokes fall flat during this 90 minute Ode
to Sandra's Ego. Recorded in a San Francisco nightclub, at least the fans are
enthusiastic. Sandra frequently chit-chats with the audience, most of whom are
curious about the large bulge in her abdomen, which gives the comedy
performance some of it's best moments.
While Sandra's musical numbers aren't so hot, the DVD outtakes are definitely
worth a look, where Ms. B cracks wise on her contemporaries, with a memorable
jab at Rosie O'Donnell's sexuality. But overall, the Bernhard's jabs at
celebrity tend to get tiresome, quickly. In the end, I'm Still Here... Damn
It! feels more like a dying protest than a statement of fact.
Still here.
